2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Winter Interregional continues in Florida

BRADENTON, Fla. (Dec. 21, 2013) — The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Winter Interregional continued Saturday at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. The three-day event features boys from the 1998 age group.

Continuing its tradition of elite competition and player development, youth from the nation's top player identification program, US Youth Soccer ODP, will train and compete in front of national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play. The 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Winter Interregional includes players primarily in the 2015-2016 graduation classes.

US Youth Soccer ODP is the nation's original player identification program. With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, it is available to any player, regardless of hometown or club affiliation. US Youth Soccer ODP has continued its tradition of elite competition and player development for more than 30 years, and is the only development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and a majority of current and past national and youth national team members as alumni. Highlights from Saturday's matches:

1998 Boys: Region IV v. Region I
Region I picked up its second win of the weekend with a 2-0 victory over Region IV on Saturday. After a scoreless opening half-hour of play, Region I took the lead on a 35th-minute strike by Christopher Capaldo, Jr. That lead doubled in the 56th minute when  Riley Strassner scored his second goal of the weekend. The two tallies were more than enough for the Region I defense, which secured the shutout in the 2-0 victory.

1998 Boys: Region III v. Region II
Region II and Region III played a competitive match on Saturday, which saw the teams finish in a 1-1 tie. The Region III squad jumped out to an early lead when Nelson Hunsinger scored just five minutes into the contest. The Region III defense tried to hold on to that advantage, but Region II’s Nicholas Kraeuter found the back of the net in the 65th minute to pull his side level. Neither side managed to score a winning goal in the final minutes of play, as the two squads settled for the 1-1 draw.
