2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Winter Interregional wraps up play in Florida

BRADENTON, Fla. (Dec. 22, 2013) — The annual US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys Winter Interregional concluded play Sunday at the IMG Academies in Bradenton, Fla. The three-day event featured boys from the 1998 age group.

Continuing its tradition of elite competition and player development, youth from the nation's top player identification program, US Youth Soccer ODP, trained and competed in front of national staff and collegiate coaches to maximize their exposure for selection to the next level of play. The 2013 US Youth Soccer ODP Boys Winter Interregional included players primarily in the 2015-2016 graduation classes.

US Youth Soccer ODP is the nation's original player identification program. With programs in all 55 US Youth Soccer State Associations, it is available to any player, regardless of hometown or club affiliation. US Youth Soccer ODP has continued its tradition of elite competition and player development for more than 30 years, and is the only development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer, the National Women’s Soccer League, and a majority of current and past national and youth national team members as alumni. Highlights from Sunday's matches:

1998 Boys: Region I v. Region II
Region I finished off a perfect weekend with a 2-0 win over Region II on Sunday. It didn’t take long for Region I to go in front, as David Mason found the back of the net in the fourth minute to open the scoring. Region I pushed its advantage to 2-0 in the 21st minute thanks to a tally by Brandon Clegg. The Region I defense, which allowed just one goal in three games, kept a clean sheet for the second straight match to cap the 2-0 win.

1998 Boys: Region III v. Region IV
After being held scoreless in its first two contests, Region IV found the back of the net three times Sunday to defeat Region III, 3-1. Brian Peek and Joshua Madeira each beat the keeper in the opening 20 minutes to give Region IV an early 2-0 advantage. Region III cut its deficit to one goal when Jerome Williams scored in the 26th minute to give his some momentum heading into halftime. However, Region IV’s Trevor Amann added a goal in the 53rd minute to help his team secure a 3-1 victory.
