Regional events in Kingston, R.I.; Des Moines, Iowa; Edmond, Okla. and Honolulu total more than $30 million to local economies in 2013

FRISCO, Texas (June 7, 2013)
— The 2013 US Youth Soccer Region III (South) Championships presented by the National Guard, to be played June 21-27, will provide an estimated economic impact of more than $8 million to the Edmond, Okla., area.
Local restaurants, hotels, retail stores and others will benefit from the more than 3,600 players, coaches, teams and tournament officials, along with an estimated 12,000 spectators attending the seven-day tournament. Visitors to the Edmond, Okla., area will book an estimated 10,000 room nights at area hotels.
The top 200 Boys and Girls US Youth Soccer teams from Region III, including at least 19 teams from the host Oklahoma Soccer Association, will compete at the Edmond Soccer Club Complex.
"It is an honor to hold the US Youth Soccer Southern Regionals in Edmond, Okla., and set the tone for the prized US Youth Soccer National Championships this July in Overland Park," said Carl Tipton, chair of the local organizing committee. "Soccer means a great deal to this community. We are delighted to host the best players and teams from across the region in this elite competition and utilize our top-tier facilities and volunteers."
The event’s opening ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. on June 20 at Wantland Stadium on the campus of the University of Central Oklahoma, and it feature a moment of silence to honor the victims of the recent Oklahoma tornadoes. To assist the relief efforts, a designated area will be set aside for players, families and all attendees to make donations to those affected by the tragedy. Items such as water bottles, canned foods and other useful supplies are recommended as donations.
In addition to the donation of goods, the Oklahoma Soccer Association has set up an account to accept monetary donations that will be used to benefit the citizens of Oklahoma. You can make a donation using the following methods:

US Youth Soccer State Champions and select wildcards in the U-13 through U-19 Boys and Girls age groups from 12 State Associations, including from host Oklahoma Soccer Association, will participate in the event. The other state associations represented include Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Texas, South Carolina, South Texas and Tennessee.
Regional winners of the U-13 through U-19 Boys and Girls brackets will earn a berth to the 2013 US Youth Soccer National Championships presented by the National Guard July 23-28 in Overland Park, Kan.
