Hey there! We just finished our event in Columbia, Tenn. and headed back north to Delaware. Along the way we stopped in Rehoboth Beach, Del. to enjoy the great beaches we heard about. But instead, we were greeted by our first ""Nor-ester"" storm. We were in the middle of one of the worst Atlantic storms that the region had seen in quite sometime. You probably saw on the news about how Hurricane Ida hit land and then became a strong storm system that headed up the East Coast and caused damage and power outages. In Rehoboth Beach we saw how powerful the winds were and how awesome the Atlantic Ocean can be in a storm. We had never seen such big waves and it proved to be a memorable experience! But, we rode out the storm and had a great weekend in Hockessin, Del. Now we're off to Great Mills, Maine to finish off this year's Kohl's US Youth Soccer American Cup! We've had such a great time along the way and we're looking forward to finishing up our last event to make it home just in time for Thanksgiving Dinner. We'll talk to you later and keep having fun out on the soccer fields. |

Hey there! We had a great time in Rhode Island but we had quite a drive ahead of us to Tennessee, so we hit the road Monday. On our way we stopped in Hershey, Pa., home of the Hershey chocolate factory. We, of course, had to take a tour of Hershey's Chocolate World! We even got to sample a brand new product in the making! Our next stop was Knoxville, Tenn. where we visited Market Square and had lunch at a place called Soccer Taco. We couldn't pass up the opportunity and the food was great! Our event in Columbia, Tenn. was wonderful. The weather was sunny and in the 70s, which was amazing for November. There were lots of players having fun testing their skills at the Kohl's Interactive Village and winning great prizes. Now we head back up northeast for an event in Delaware this weekend. Check back next week to find out what Delaware has in store for us! |

Howdy! We just finished up our event in Pawtucket, R.I. We had an unexpected tournament cancellation due to the rainy weather we experienced in the Northeast. But the sun finally decided to show up for the past week and we are having a great time in the New England area. We were able to visit Boston and had a blast checking out all the sites and historical landmarks Boston has to offer. Being a hardcore baseball fan, I was able to convince Renee to take a trip to the legendary Fenway Park. We took the tour of the park and were surprised to find out that part of the new Ben Affleck movie was being shot inside the park that same day. We were lucky enough to see the famous Green Wall and Oscar winner Ben Affleck all in one day. Being in the New England area for the past couple weeks, we have found that the locals love their pizza and we can both say that we have had our fill of pizza for quite awhile. By far the best pizza that we have had in a long time was Regina's Pizzeria. So if you're in the New England area, check it out! We are heading down to Columbia, Tenn. for another great weekend of recreational soccer. So keep having fun out on the soccer fields and we'll talk to you soon! |

Hi there! It was a rainy drive from Kansas to Ohio, but we made it safely. Our event was in Van Buren, OH this week and it was a true success. Even though it was a bit cool the weather cooperated enough to keep us up-and-running all weekend. I was pretty excited because while driving on Saturday I saw a groundhog. It was so big! On another note, while in Ohio we decided to make a trip to the birthplace of Rock and Roll and visit the Hall of Fame. It was so cool. The best part was to be able to see clothes, shoes, products, etc. that the stars actually used. They even had an exhibit that showcased the progression of radio. They had everything from the phonograph to the very first iPod. It was pretty surreal to see how much technology has changed and how lucky we are to be able to have convenient luxuries of today. We're off on our excursion to our event in Connecticut. We'll chat soon! ![]() |

Hello again! We're back on the road again and loving it. We began the fall season of the Kohl's American Cup in Shawnee, Kansas. We had a great deal of wind on the drive to Kansas, so we were a bit worried how the weather would turn out for our event weekend. After a few clouds and some winds on Saturday, the sun was out in all of its glory to give us a beautiful Sunday. Our event went fabulously and we had a lot of participants who came to have fun at the Kohl's Interactive Village. Now, since Kris is from Kansas City (not too far from Shawnee) we were able to spend some time with his family. I also got a taste of one of his favorite BBQ restaurants, Smokehouse BBQ. It was quite delicious! We're headed to The Buckeye State next, Ohio that is. Enjoy this beautiful fall weather and we'll catch up with you next week. |

Hi everyone! It's been awhile since we've been on a bit of a break, but we've missed blogging about our experiences. Our event was held in Cincinnati, Ohio this weekend and we had a great time. It took us quite awhile to get there due to directions failing us more than one time, yet again. We had a great event! The weather was a bit dull at times, but that didn't stop the soccer. We even got to eat at Jimmy Buffet's Cheeseburger Paradise! The food was great and a great band to entertain. We had a great weekend in Cincinnati and we can't wait to see what's to come at future events. Until next time, have a great start of the school year and keep on kicking! |

Hey there! It's been a great week since our event in Kansas City. We only had a six-hour drive to Kentucky, so we decided to take a detour through St. Louis, Mo., to visit with more family and friends. The thing I was most excited about was getting to see my dog, Mia Belle! My dad is dog sitting while we're on this adventure, so I haven't seen her since February. For all you dog lovers out there, you know that's a long time to be away from your furry friend. She was just as excited to see me.
We went to visit Historic St. Charles, but it was so hot outside that we decided we wanted to go to the pool. After we got back to the hotel and changed we headed out to the truck and to our disbelief it had started storming! So, we clearly couldn't go to the pool and Kris decided he wanted to take a trip to Sky Zone. I had never been there before and didn't know what I was getting into. This place was amazing! It was covered in trampolines, there were even trampolines on the walls! We had so much fun flipping and literally bouncing off the walls, and it was an amazing work out. It was a great week hanging out with family and having home cooked meals, but we had to head to Kentucky.
Our event in Buckner, Ky., went very well and the weather was fabulous. We have two weeks to get to our next event and the beach is calling our names so we're heading to Panama City Beach for some fun in the sun. I'm sure we'll have some great stories for you next time. Hope you're having a spectacular summer! |

Hello again! We had a very long drive from our last event to our next event in Kansas City, Mo. We definitely had a deadline to meet because it was my (Kris) birthday and wanted to celebrate at home in Kansas City with my parents and friends. We arrived just in time for my birthday and enjoyed partaking in one of my favorite things – going to a Kansas City Royals game.
![]() I know I'm going to get a ton of slack for this but being a hometown fan is something to be proud of. And even though they haven't won a series since '85, the Royals are still my team and going to Kauffman Stadium is always an adventure.
With it being my birthday, Renee threw caution into the wind and actually wore a Royals t-shirt which surprised me (Renee is a St. Louis Cardinals fan). But, we both had a great time at the game and had a even better time spending the week with my family and friends.
We're off to Buckner, Ky., next, so until then enjoy your first few weeks of summer and get outside and get active!
See you soon, Kris and Renee! |

Hello again! We've had quite the adventurous week since our event in Colorado. During our off time we decided to take a trip to upstate Wyoming to stay in Jackson Hole. The town was absolutely beautiful with a quaint and cozy feel. While visiting, we took a trip through Grand Teton National Park and even up through Yellowstone National Park. These two parks were number one and three on the Travel channel's Top Ten National Parks to see Wildlife list so we were hoping to see a ton of animals. It's still early in the season so we didn't see as much as we'd hoped, but we had a blast regardless. We saw some elk, a lot of buffalo, hiked to an awesome waterfall and got to see Old Faithful erupt. It was a great day, but we were wiped out by the end of the day. ![]() The next day we were going to celebrate Kris' upcoming birthday by taking an unguided horseback ride in the mountains of Wyoming. Upon arrival to the stables they informed us that the horses we were taking, Rocket and Skipper, were extremely gentle and weren't even the type of horses to buck or rear-up. Kris has worked on a horse ranch in Colorado before, so after a short lesson for me about how to steer, we were off!
![]() I was excited because the last time I'd been on a horse was when I was a little girl, which means I was also a tad bit nervous. After about 20 minutes into the trail we headed up a steep hill and I assume my horse, Rocket, got spooked and began to buck and I ended up flying off. Kris and his horse, Skipper, were already up the hill so he had to quickly get off his horse and walk it back down the hill to be able to make sure I was ok. Rocket continued to buck down the hill and sprinted back towards the stables. Kris tied Skipper up to a large brush pile to come help me, and as soon as he got to me realized that Skipper had gotten loose and he too began running back to the stables. Apparently they didn't want to take us on a ride. In the end we were both ok, but just a little shaken up by the whole situation, but knew we had to tell you guys of our crazy day. After a great week full of adventure, we were ready to bring that same adventurous spirit to the Casper Kohl's American Cup! It was a wonderful event and we know all the participants had a great time! We'll catch you later...until then, keep kickin! |

Hey there!
We hope the beginning of your summer has had a great start. We've had a few action packed weeks lately so we decided to take it easy this week. We headed to Denver to hang out prior to our event. Denver is an awesome city; there is a ton of stuff to do and the whole time there are beautiful mountains in the distance. We did a bit of shopping at the Cherry Creek Mall as well as the 16th Street Mall. The 16th Street Mall was very cool. It's an outdoor mall downtown. It was a beautiful day and there were people out enjoying the weather. People were shopping, playing chess in the street, and many people were playing musical instruments just enjoying life. The event in Englewood, Colo., was fun. The weather was a bit windy, but that all turned around for us on Sunday, and to our advantage we were able to end the tournament on a great note. Our next event is in Casper, Wy., so we're going to visit Grand Teton National Park for a few days to enjoy the outdoors and hopefully see a good deal of wildlife. Until next week, we ask you to join us. Wherever you may be get outside, be active, and enjoy the beautiful weather. |

Howdy! We had a great trip coming from El Paso, Texas to Bernalillo, N.M. The scenery was absolutely amazing and the sunsets are just as breathtaking. On our way to our event in Bernalillo we stopped off in Santa Fe, N.M. and decided to be adventurous. We booked a trip on the Rio Grande River and decided to do some WHITE WATER RAFTING!!!! Renee has never experienced the thrill and spills of rafting and she was in for a ride. The water level was really high on that day and proved to be a rocky ride. We both enjoyed it and we are looking forward to our next adventure on the road. Our next stop is Englewood, Colo., so we'll talk to you soon! |

Hola!
We're having a blast here in South Texas. We've been a few places since our last event including San Antonio, Austin and now we're in El Paso, Texas. Each city was very different from one another; however, each had it's own unique feel and Kris and I enjoyed every bit of it. First in San Antonio, we arrived just in time for Fiesta! There were authentic Mexican food vendors, shopping, live music and dancing. We also visited The Alamo and had fun playing in the Mirror Maze and Laser Challenge. It was great! Next, in Austin, we went to see "Monsters vs. Aliens" at the IMAX Theater and visited the Texas Museum of the Weird….which was obviously very weird! Since Kris is a HUGE fan of the University of Texas Longhorns we had to visit the campus to check out the stadium. In both of these cities we had the pleasure of meeting up and visiting with old friends. This was nice to have familiar faces around, and just as nice to have a good home cooked meal. Our event in El Paso went fabulously! The weather was great and so were the people. This event had a ton of community involvement when it came to the entertainment. There were pony rides, barbeques for fundraisers and even a mariachi band! It was a blast! We can't wait to see what is to come in New Mexico. Until then, keep having fun and playing soccer! |

Hello Kohl's American Cup supporters and followers!!! This is Kris from the Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2, on tour and back on the road after a month-long break. For this first event back on the road, I'm flying solo, and it has been a bit crazy, to say the least. Well, the weather has been crazy...
When I arrived in Lubbock, I was welcomed by a nasty storm that produced a ton of hail and few tornado warnings. It was an awesome sight but it was kind of scary and I was worried about the Soccer Experience Vehicle. Check out the pics below. That's not snow it's hail!!!!
Thank goodness that the weather made a total 360 and for the rest of the week it was warm and sunny. The Lubbock Kohl's American Cup was really great but I really underestimated the windy weather of west Texas. It was the windiest event so far and it limited the amount of inflatables I could put up for the Soccer Experience Village. But even though the wind wouldn't cooperate, the event was a success and the people of Lubbock are absolutely the best. Thanks for a great week Lubbock! San Antonio here I come. |

Greetings from Texas!!
We have been a couple of beach bums since we last checked in. The locals in Portland, Texas recommended that we visit Port Aransas, TX. Port Aransas is an island off the coast that is connected to the well-known Padre Island. We took the route to ride the ferry to the Island, which was an experience in itself. While we were watching another ferry cross our path we saw dolphins following in its wake. Once we checked into the hotel we went straight to the beach, what else would you expect us Missourians to do? The next day we decided to try our skills out at skim boarding. Skim boarding is the latest craze for beach-goers. It's much like surfing, but on a smaller board and you "skim" across low-level water, which you appear to be skimming on the sand. For more advanced skimmers you can move on to try to skim on water and waves or even try a few tricks. It definitely took a lot of work, but we both had a couple of good runs. Kris even did a turn, but I think that was more out of pure accident. The only thing left to top off a great day at the beach was dinner at a great local pizza joint.
The following day we, of course, went to the beach again. This time, we decided to take the leisurely route. We played football, picnicked, and boogie boarded. The perfect way to end our days of fun in the sun was to BBQ dinner on the beach.
After our days of sand and sun we were off to Harlingen, TX for our next Kohl's American Cup event. The first thing we noticed was that people in Harlingen are very hospitable. The weather didn't work in our favor, but we still had a lot of fun. We're off for now, but we'll check back in soon!! Until then, check out our photos from the Harlingen Kohl's American Cup. Hello Kohl's American Cup supporters and followers!!!
This is Kris and Renee from behind the wheel of Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 for the 2009 Kohl's American Cup. We are both excited for this opportunity to travel around the country and spread soccer awareness from community to community. We started our journey from Missouri and flew into Frisco, TX to pick up our trucks and supplies at the US Youth Soccer Headquarters. Our first event was in Muskogee, Okla., which turned out great, but a bit cold and windy, but that all changed when we drove to south Texas for our next event in Portland. The beach was a nice change in relation to the weather we just experienced and we took full advantage of it.
Along the way we were able to enjoy sights and experiences in Texas. Our first stop was at the Port Aransas Wildlife Refuge in Port Aransas, TX. This federally funded refuge is home to some of the areas most treasured and rare animal species found in south Texas. We were able to see alligators, javelinas (wild pigs), whooping cranes, and to Renee's surpise, a snake.
We had a great time driving through the refuge and headed to our next stop on the tourist agenda.
Our next stop was at the Texas State Aquarium in Corpus Christi, TX. If you like dolphins, sea otters, stingrays, and other arrays of sea animals this is a must see.
After the sightseeing, we went to our event in Portland, TX. It was a great event with great people and great weather. The dolphin show was amazing and our three performers: Shadow, DJ, and Kai were great to watch. The other highlight of the days was the Stingray pool. If you ever felt anything cold and gooey, then you felt something that feels similar to a stingray. After much coaxing, Renee finally stuck her hand into the pond and felt a stingray. Wish I could've capture her reaction on camera but I'm sure you can picture the look on her face. We are looking forward to our next event in Harlingen, TX and for the nice warm weather that we are both enjoying very much. Until then, see you all later!!!!!! |

| Brrrr!!!! What a cold weekend for the Kohl's American Cup team. We, along with the young boys and girls who played in the tournament in Muskogee, Okla., on Saturday and Sunday survived the frigid weather. Check out thte pictures of everyone having a great time playing soccer and all bundled up. (Muskogee, OK Photo Album) On our trip north from Frisco, Texas we stopped at a Mom and Pop roadside restaurant for some catfish and chicken fried steak for lunch. Yummy!! We awoke Saturday morning to temperatures in the single digits with occasional snow flurries. So, we all bundled up to set up and work the event. Surviving on hot chocolate and coffee for the weekend we pulled through, just as everyone did. Now we are headed south to Portland, Texas and steadily rising temperatures. Yay!! Catch you next weekend from Portland, Texas. |

We are so excited to kickoff the 2009 Kohl's US Youth Soccer American Cup and get behind the wheel of the big blue Soccer Experience Vehicle that powers this year-long tour!
![]() First things first though, as you see above, we all stopped in Frisco, Texas, home of the US Youth Soccer national office and the beloved Stickley, to load up all of the larger-than-life inflatable soccer games, tents and cool prizes for you and all of your friends and family members! |

Kohl's American Cup 2008 has come to an end and what a great year we've had! The Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 cruised all around the country and met amazing teams and coaches in every state that we visited. We send a big shout out to all of the kids who tested their skills with us this year and hope to see you all again next year! Keep playing and having a ball on the soccer field! Our event in Metairie was great! Kohl's really came through with the A-team volunteers and showed their support for US Youth Soccer in Louisiana. Even with the strong winds, the kids played hard and had a great time. We are down to one more tournament in 2008 and that is in Houston, Texas! Keep your eyes out on the highways as the Kohl's Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 makes the final drive down I-10!
See you in Texas,

| Winter has arrived in West Virginia and our Florida blood was having a hard time adjusting to the cold. But the warm welcome we received made up for it! The tournament was good and the kids were so excited to get the red Kohl's American Cup winter hats to keep them warm on the field. We are happy to be back on the road and heading south. The spicy cajun cooking of New Orleans is calling our names! See you soon! Melanie and Erika |

Our trek from Oregon to Tennessee was a long one, but we made it! The Weather Channel is your friend and when they warned of 'white out conditions and blizzards' in Nebraska, we did not want to see it first hand. The snow started falling as we crossed the mountains in Wyoming and we decided to head for the southern route. The leaves were all changing and it was beautiful coming across the country. We received a warm welcome in Columbia and were even offered the local delicacy of fried opossum! We decided to save that experience for next year! Off to West Virginia...Hope to see you there! We had a fantastic event in Beaverton, Ore. During the morning of the Kohl's American Cup tournament we were set up in front of a field used for a college game. The women's team from Portland State University played Eastern Washington University. It was a great game, and it was awesome to see the interest and excitement in the younger kids watching the college players. We are now on our 2,400 mile track cross-country and headed to warmer weather in the South! Be sure to honk and wave when you see us!

We survived the Kohl's American Cup in Shawnee, Kan. with heaps of smiling faces and no tornadoes in sight! Now we are on the road and heading west! Our trek takes us over the Rocky Mountains for the sixth time this year. The aspen trees are just now shedding their last golden leaves and the tops of the peaks are covered in snow. Maybe we'll get some flurries on our trip to Oregon! Fall here we come! See you soon, Melanie and Erika! |

Corn, corn, and great expanses of farmlands…Welcome to Nebraska, Wyoming, Utah and Idaho! Yes, it was a long haul from Indiana, but The Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 made it to the small, and oh so friendly town of Middleton, Idaho. The miles upon miles of cornfields finally gave way to smiling faces and teams of excited kids. We were welcomed with open arms and the Kohl's American Cup organizers even invited us to spaghetti dinner! We loved Idaho!
Now we're back on the open road and headed for the land of Dorothy, Toto and the Scarecrow. Keeping our eyes peeled for tornadoes and hoping we don't find any on our way to Kansas!
See you there! Melanie and Erika |

On the way to Indiana we stopped to camp on the banks of the Mississippi River. The Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 was the hit of the campground! Everyone was intrigued with our big blue presence. We made lots of friends from all over the country and shared smores with our neighbors as they told stories about their grandkids playing soccer back home in Minnesota. The Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 is making its way back across the country to Idaho and making new friends along the way!
Next stop, Middleton, Idaho! See you soon,

The trip from Washington through Oregon and California was full of fantastic scenery. We took the more beautiful back roads and cruised past Crater Lake and the surrounding national forests. From nature to bling bling, we had a quick stop in Reno and realized that it will never compare to the majestic casinos in Vegas. Upon arriving on the strip, we quickly realized that 110 degrees in the middle of the desert was not the most favorable conditions for a soccer tournament. But the Las Vegas Kohl's American Cup turned out great and we even had a few impressive rain drops fall during the festival. Thankfully with the cloud cover it only got up to 97 degrees on Saturday! We're off to Wichita, KS…see you in a couple of weeks!

The drive into Vancouver was very nice as we cruised along the Columbia River Gorge. It's an amazing area of the northwest, with vineyards and small unique towns lining the steep slopes as they fall to the water's edge. The sky was full of colorful kites as the kite surfers were taking advantage of the serious winds that course through the gorge and were catching some massive air! The windsurfers were also out in abundance and doing some aerial acrobatics that were not to be missed. With Mt. Hood on one horizon and Mt. Saint Helen on the other, it was the perfect drive to kick off our Kohl's American Cup fall tournament schedule! Next Up…Viva Las Vegas! Hope to see you there! Melanie and Erika |

Our last springtime Kohl's American Cup was a hot one. The Kentucky Kohl's American Cup was great even though it was almost 100 degrees! Everyone was out and playing their best and the Kohl's American Cup tents were a haven for all involved. One family that drove over four hours to participate was especially appreciative.
After surviving the Kohl's Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 is now ready for its cross-country trip to Washington State in the beautiful Northwest. We're looking forward to some really great camping in famous places such as The Badlands & Mount Rushmore National Parks! Keep your eyes out on the highways for the Kohl's Soccer Experience Vehicle 2, and don't forget to wave as we roll through your town!
See you in August!

Being from Florida, we are quite accustomed to and not afraid of stormy weather such as hurricanes. But boy were we in for a surprise when we traveled through what is affectionately knows as Tornado Alley in the middle of America. Nebraska is usually a peaceful farming state. However, we happened to be crossing the state right on the tail of the worst "family of tornadoes" they have seen in the last 15 years!
We were cruising down Interstate 80 listening to satellite radio with no knowledge that the foreboding clouds ahead of us were full of twisters. It was not until we came across the mass of broken trees and newly non-existent barns and farmhouses, that we begin to realize that something was just not right. On the off-ramp for our hotel, there were semi-trucks blown off the highway and lying in the ditch. Thankfully we arrived at our hotel safe and sound. The hotel lobby was full of people waiting out the storm and they were glad to inform us that we had made it just in time. Half of the town was without power and there was damage in all parts of the city, but no one was hurt. We were so thankful to have made it to our destination and could not believe that if we had been just 10 miles ahead of schedule on the interstate, then we could've been one of those trucks that were blown off the highway. Alas, the Kohl's American Cup keeps on a truckin' with more adventures ahead! Off to the Kentucky Kohl's American Cup! Mel and Erika |

The drive down I-70 through Colorado is absolutely stunning. The Rocky Mountains are gorgeous as the interstate winds you through the canyons with the river keeping pace beside you.
We stopped in Aspen, one of our favorite mountain towns. The weather was quite chilly and we got a lot of snow while there, but unfortunately didn't get to take some of our favorite hiking trails because of some flood warnings. Thankfully, though, we were already gone from Denver by the time the really crazy weather hit and the tornados were touching down!
Cruising out of the foothills we came upon the Great Salt Lake and were once again rewarded with majestic scenery. North Logan is a beautiful small town and everyone was so welcoming to the Kohl's American Cup Soccer Experience Vehicle 2! We got some great local recommendations and munched on some fantastic local Italian food to get us geared up for the tournament. Leaving the tournament on Saturday evening we hit the road with directions in hand. Our path took us through the Logan Canyon National Scenic Byway and into one of the most beautiful national forests of our journey so far. We thought we'd seen it all until suddenly rounded a bend and came upon Bear Lake. Breathtaking is the only way to describe its shimmering turquoise waters and snowcapped mountain peaks. We hopped out of the Kohl's Soccer Experience Vehicle 2 and couldn't help but notice that our blue matched the blue of the lake below. This pristine lake is home to 4 types of fish that are not found anywhere else in the world. It's too bad that we didn't have more time, but we are definitely going to make a trip back to this little piece of nature's paradise in the NE corner of Utah. |
