Technical Director | Alabama Soccer Association


The Technical Director is a full-time position for Alabama Soccer Association (ASA). We have a current membership base of over 27,000 registered players, primarily youth, and approximately 2,000 active coaches, referees, and administrators through our network of over 60 local member organizations across the state. The main responsibility of the Technical Director is to promote the mission of ASA and develop, implement, and manage day-day operations associated with it. 


The Technical Director reports to the Executive Director for the following, which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

Coach Education, Olympic Development, Outreach Programs:

  • Prepare and manage an annual budget for state program
  • Develop and maintain standard operating procedures as well as a calendar of events
  • Hire, develop, and manage staff coaches
  • Provide direction and oversight to the Olympic Development Program (ODP)
  • Broaden elite players’ opportunities through involvement in the Olympic Development Program (ODP), assistance with college selection and recruitment
  • Instruct state level education courses
  • Develop and deliver coaching resources/handbooks to be publicized on website and e-newsletters
  • Coordinate and manage all programs with Zone One Director of Coaching
  • Establish a curriculum, a strategic plan which maps the growth of our players
  • Expand and maintain progress of Outreach programs, Elite Player Development, school programming, and TOPSoccer
  • Organize and Assist in directing the State Cups and Target Cups
  • Visit clubs/associations to assess their developmental needs

Other Responsibilities:

  • Maintain a high level of energy and positive approach to player development at all levels
  • Assist in the delivery of member benefits to current and prospective club/associations
  • Be in attendance at ASA events
  • Serve on various committees, as deemed appropriate
  • Participate in USC and US Youth Soccer Conventions/Workshops
  • Become knowledgeable of ASA Bylaws, and Policies




  • USSF ‘A’ License; USSF National ‘Youth’ License (NYCC); current USSF Instructor
  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Experience in teaching education courses (USC, US Youth or USSF)
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication and motivational skills
  • Demonstrated broad and diverse coaching ability at all ages and levels of play
  • Demonstrated ability in a Microsoft environment, which includes Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Demonstrated ability in GotSoccer and/or other program/league management systems
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • Must pass a background check
  • Ability to meet physical requirements with or without reasonable accommodation
