2012-2013 National League Vegas Preview: U-18 Girls

The Under-18 Girls didn’t leave much to be decided after Orlando.  Three teams clinched berths to the National Championships, highlighted by Team Chicago Botafogo’s perfect 7-0-0 finish, just the third girls team to ever accomplish the feat.
In the Red Division, Team Chicago and defending National Champion VSA Heat (VA) met in the final match to determine the league champ.  Team Chicago stormed out of the gate, scoring twice in the first six minutes en route to a 3-1 victory.  Zoe Swift (Kentucky) struck eight times this season for Team Chicago, good for a tie for second best all-time, and the team scored 23 times, the second best output from a team all-time.  Despite the loss, VSA locked up a second place finish and will move on to defend their National title.
Lou Fusz Wipke (MO) and Michigan FC (MI) also met on the final day in the Blue Division with hopes of a top-two finish on the line.  Tied with 10 points apiece, Lou Fusz held the tiebreaker and the two battled to a 1-1 draw.  Hannah Leinert (Illinois State) scored her sixth goal of the season in the first half and held off a furious Michigan rally to earn their bid to Nationals.  Lou Fusz returns to the National Championships for the first time since 2010 when they were Region II Champions.
Last season’s National Championship finalist and defending National League champ Legends FC (CA-S) is the only team that can overtake Michigan FC in the standings, and Legends need just a draw in Vegas to do so.
