One of the 15U Blue Division’s two tickets to the US Youth Soccer National Championships has already been secured, as Nationals Union 02 Black (MI) finished play in Orlando with 18 points. Results in Las Vegas will determine whether that is enough for the Michigan side to win the division, as just one side — Legends FC 02 Academy 1 (CA-S) — has the ability to jump past Nationals Union. Before Legends can focus on the division title, it must make sure to take care of business against the competition in Las Vegas.
Legends allowed just one goal during its four games in North Carolina, and it currently sits just two points behind idle SJEB Rush 02 Academy Blue (NJ). While Legends is in a prime position to move into the top two, it can’t take any games off. Arsenal FC Brown (CA-S) is four points back of Legends and showed it has offensive firepower while scoring 14 goals in its first four games.
Tennessee SC 2002 Showcase (TN) and Chicago Fire Juniors South Premier (IL), at four points and three points, respectively, are each still in the hunt for a top-two finish. If either of the two is going to accomplish that feat, it will need to pick up three wins and get some favorable results in the other games in Vegas.
Game to Watch
March 19, Arsenal FC Brown (CA-S) vs. Legends FC 02 Academy 1 (CA-S)
This matchup of Cal South foes has the potential to have a berth to the National Championships on the line. Should Legends drop any points over the first couple of days in Vegas, it could open the door for Arsenal to have a chance to jump into second place with a win in this matchup. On the other hand, Legends may have the opportunity to claim the division title if it can cap a 3-0 week with a victory in this game. Whatever the scenario is entering this match, it should be an entertaining game between some familiar opponents.
It should be a fun three days in Las Vegas for the 15U Red Division teams, as all four sides competing during the final weekend of the season are in the thick of the race for a top-two finish. A strong week in Orlando allowed North United Rush (PA-W) to take a temporary hold of first place, but with two teams just a point behind it, North United won’t be able to keep a hold of a spot in the top two.
CUP Gold (OH-S) looks to be the favorite to finish on top of the group, as it is on a record-setting pace with a 25-to-1 goal differential. That dominance helped the Ohio South side to a 4-0-0 mark in North Carolina, but it’s not the only team in the division to enter Vegas with a perfect record. La Roca-PO 02 (UT) also has four wins to its name and will have its sights set on the division title, as well.
Neither CUP nor La Roca can relax, as Sporting OFC 2002 Elite (NE) and Fullerton Rangers 02 White (CA-S) are closed behind with 10 points and nine points, respectively. While they both have a little more work to do, Sporting and Fullerton each need just one game to jump right into the middle of the battle for the division title.
Game to Watch
March 17, Cincinnati United Premier Gold (OH-S) vs. La Roca-PO 02 (UT)
This matchup should start the weekend with a bang and set up several more exciting games on Saturday and Sunday that could easily be in this spot as ones to check out. Both teams enter with perfect records and will be looking to grab an advantage in the race for the division title. CUP’s large goal differential gives it a big advantage in tiebreaker scenarios, so it would benefit the most from a tie. However, a draw won’t be the objective of either side as both teams should be anxious to try and secure a win to take control of the division.
