TUKWILA, Wash. (September 18, 2014) – The Washington Youth Soccer Elite Player Development (EPD) program has announced the State Team pools for the boys and girls 1998-2002 birth years. The EPD State Team pools are comprised of the top selected players from throughout the state in each gender age group and offers players the unique experience to represent Washington as one team. In a continued effort to search out the top talent from throughout the state, EPD coaches and evaluators scouted Regional Club League (RCL) and Washington State Championship matches, and held multiple tryouts at five locations around Washington in order to identify the top players throughout the state. Evaluations and pool selection for the 2003 and 2004 birth years will begin in January.
The EPD program is part of US Youth Soccer’s Olympic Development Program, which provides a development and identification pathway for players to move on to the ODP Regional Team, U.S. Youth National Team, collegiate and professional levels. EPD mimics the U.S. National Team program where the top players are brought together from clubs around Washington for training and competition. In the past two years, over 20 Washington Youth Soccer EPD players have been called into U.S. Youth National Team camps.
Players selected to the EPD state pool will benefit from monthly training sessions with nationally licensed EPD coaching staff, the possibility to be selected for competitions including the US Youth Soccer Region IV ODP Championships, as well as exposure to regional ODP, national team and collegiate scouts.
