Sounders U23s, Sounders Women Set to Kick Off 2014 Campaigns

March 4, 2014 08:28 PM

The Seattle Sounders FC aren’t the only game in town. Both the Sounders U-23s and the Seattle Sounders Women are set to kick off their 2014 campaigns over the next two months, giving Northwest soccer fans a chance to catch some of soccer's brightest stars on their way up to the top flights of American soccer.

In the last 13 months alone, three members of the Sounders U23s — Sean Okoli, Aaron Kovar and DeAndre Yedlin — have been signed to professional contracts by Sounders FC. All three developed their skills at Washington Youth Soccer clubs and the Olympic Development Program (ODP) before moving on to collegiate and professional careers. Okoli and Kovar will be MLS rookies in 2014, while Yedlin enters his second season with Sounders FC after becoming an MLS All-Star and earning a call-up to the U.S. Men’s National Team in 2014.

The Sounders Women have similarly packed their roster over the years with players who have achieved greatness at all levels of the game, with a list of alumni that includes USWNT stars Hope Solo, Alex Morgan, Sydney Leroux and Megan Rapinoe. The team’s current roster includes some of the most accomplished players in the state today, from college stars like Washington’s Allie Beahan, Lindsay Elston, Isabel Farrell, Megan Kufeld and Annie Sittauer, to 15-year-old Maddie Schultz of Crossfire Premier and Edmonds-Woodway High School. Thirteen of the team’s players have been featured on their country’s youth national teams (including seven Americans), cementing the Sounders Women reputation for forging the next generation of international women’s stars.

Season-ticket packages for both teams are on sale, including flex packages that allow fans to pick and choose the opponents or dates they’d most like to attend.

Sounders U-23 season tickets are just $60, including eight tickets for any of the seven home matches this season. The 2014 Season Ticket Flex Pack eliminates the risk of missing games. Instead of one ticket specifically associated with each match, fans will receive eight tickets, good at any match during the 2014 season. Have to miss a game? No problem, just use that ticket for a friend at the next one.

Flex tickets may also be combined for multiple admissions to the same match – attend one match with seven friends, four matches with one friend, or any other combination of eight tickets. It's the ultimate in flexibility.

Also, if the Sounders U-23s host a playoff match in 2014, all season ticket holders will be admitted to the playoff match for free! Finally, any of these Sounders U-23 Flex Pack tickets will be accepted to watch any home Sounders Women match in 2014.

It’s a similar deal for the Sounders Women, whose flex packs will sell for as little as $100, and will include 12 tickets, to any of the 11 home matches on the team’s 2014 schedule. Just as with the Sounders U-23 tickets, the Sounders Women tickets can be used in any combination, at any home game. They can even be used to attend a Sounders U-23 game instead!

Also, if the Sounders Women host a playoff match in 2014, all season ticket holders will be admitted to the playoff match for free.

The Sounders U-23 will compete in the Premier Development League in 2014, with their home matches located at Sumner HS Stadium in downtown Sumner. Matches will also be played at Starfire Sports Stadium, Curtis HS Stadium, and Tumwater HS Stadium. The Sounders Women will compete in the W-League, with regular-season games played at Starfire Sports Stadium in Tukwila.

Both teams kick off their seasons soon, with the Sounders U-23s playing their regular-season home opener May 25 against the Puget Sound Gunners, and the Sounders Women kicking off a five-game exhibition slate April 10 vs. SPU at Interbay, before opening the regular season with a three-game road trip starting May 23. The team then comes home to face the Colorado Pride in the regular-season home opener June 13.
