Thanks to Doug Andreassen For Seven Great Years

By Tom Ament
President, Washington Youth Soccer

Hi, I’m Tom Ament, your new President of Washington Youth Soccer, and it is my honor to be serving you in 2014-15. I have served on the Washington Youth Soccer Board for the past five years, and prior to that as a club and local association president. With four children growing up in Washington Youth Soccer, my wife Andree’ and I have been the beneficiaries of this great game, and I am committed to doing my part to ensure that the experience is available to families across the state of Washington.

As I take on this role, I have to take a moment to express my thanks and the thanks of the board and membership to Doug Andreassen for his incredible seven years as President of Washington Youth Soccer. With is passion and energy, he led Washington Youth Soccer through an era of tremendous change, strengthening the board and staff, and personally connecting with administrators, coaches, players and families across the state.

Under Doug’s leadership, Washington Youth Soccer has improved our services to diverse and underserved communities, implemented a nationally recognized, USSF-funded, school-based Soccer for Success program, rolled out a best-in-class risk management program to ensure the proper screening of our adult volunteers, and made Washington a leader in implementing proper concussion protocols and awareness. Doug has been a national leader for this cause, driving adoption throughout US Youth Soccer and building support at the congressional level. Finally, under Doug we have established an excellent relationship with Seattle Sounders FC, and are seen as a best-in-class example of how to work with the professional level to promote the game.

In the coming year, I look forward to building on our progress; working with local association and club leadership to improve our outreach to diverse and underserved communities; building better support for recreational and select teams, coaches, players and leagues; and continuing to expand regional and National League access for our highly competitive teams.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve, and see you on the pitch!
