Washington Youth Soccer 2014 Resource Guide

August 4, 2014 01:03 PM

Welcome to the start of the new soccer season!

For everyone involved in youth soccer, there is no more exciting month of the year than August. Families are returning from their summer vacations, and soccer fields across the state are filled with young, eager players excitedly catching up with teammates and coaches, showing off the new skills they’ve learned over the summer, and preparing for the season ahead.

It’s a time before any games are played, when we can truly appreciate the reasons our children love the game of soccer -- fun, family, fitness, and friendship. Almost every child starts playing soccer for one of these four reasons -- as parents, coaches, referees and administrators, let’s keep that in mind in everything we do this season, and create a safe, fair, and most important – FUN! – atmosphere in which our players can grow and learn.

If you're new to the youth soccer scene, you might be asking, "Who is Washington Youth Soccer?" With over 115,000 players, Washington Youth Soccer is the largest youth soccer organization in Washington, and is the state's affiliate for US Youth Soccer, which is the largest sports organization in the United States and part of a direct developmental pathway to U.S. Soccer and regional and national team programs.

If you are receiving the PlayOn! newsletter, you are registered as a member of a Washington Youth Soccer Club or Association — either as a parent, coach, administrator, referee or volunteer. Welcome!

Regardless of your role within our game, there is always room for improvement. To help you navigate through the 2014-5 season, Washington Youth Soccer offers numerous resources, both through its website,, its social media pages (Washington Youth Soccer on Facebook@wayouthsoccer on Twitter) and elsewhere.

Whether a first-time coach or parent, or an experienced soccer veteran, you’re certain to find something in the resources listed below that will prove useful to you in the year ahead. It is Washington Youth Soccer’s mission to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of the State of Washington's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition. Working together, we can use the season ahead a success, and foster a lifelong love of the game in our young players.
