This month, clubs and teams across the nation participated in Youth Soccer Month, a national celebration of soccer in America. In Indiana alone, players, teams and clubs participated in more than a dozen activities aimed at spreading awareness of the benefits of youth soccer.
“Each year more member clubs and their communities participate in US Youth’s Soccer Month” said Dave Guthrie, executive director of Indiana Soccer. “This year is no exception to the increased participation, as several new clubs and their communities joined veteran clubs of US Youth Soccer Month. Each year, soccer becomes the sport of choice for more Hoosier families and US Youth Soccer Month provides an excellent way for member clubs to showcase themselves and to reinforce the family aligned values that Indiana Soccer member clubs demonstrate.”
With 19 million children participating in soccer nationally, more children participate in organized soccer than youth football, baseball or basketball. Throughout each week of Youth Soccer Month, participating clubs and teams emphasize one of four messages: Fun, Family, Friendship or Fitness.
“US Youth Soccer is pleased to conclude another successful Youth Soccer Month,” said Todd Roby, director of marketing and communications of US Youth Soccer. “We appreciate the support and participation from our member US Youth Soccer State Associations, including Indiana Soccer, a longtime supporter, in promoting this initiative."
More than a dozen events kicked off throughout Indiana in September, ranging from halftime exhibition games to local fundraisers. In conjunction with this initiative, 13 Indiana cities and towns including Avon, Beech Grove, Bloomington, Carmel, Crown Point, Fishers, Fort Wayne, Kokomo, Lafayette, Lawrence, Noblesville, Terre Haute, Indianapolis and Westfield proclaimed September as ‘Youth Soccer Month’.
"It was tremendous fun to represent Indy Eleven in helping Indiana Soccer celebrate Youth Soccer Month," said Juergen Sommer, director of soccer operations and head coach of Indy Eleven. "Seeing the joy and passion the game brings to young players here in Indiana is a great reminder of how vibrant the soccer community is now and will continue to be in the future."
