Mohamed Ouchikh Named East Region Male Recreational Coach of the Year
THURS, NOV 1, Glen Burnie, MD – Congratulations to Mohamed Ouchikh, the 2018 Maryland and East Region Male Recreational Coach of the Year! Mohamed is a head coach for recreational and recreational select teams for the Soccer Association of Columbia. He is also the soccer commissioner for the Laurel Boys and Girls Club, a USSF licensed soccer referee and has been a member of the Capital Area Soccer Referees Association (CASRA) since 2015.
Mohamed has his US Soccer “C” license, has a goalkeeping level 1 diploma and is a member of the United Soccer Coaches. He attends conventions each year and has taken several additional coaching workshops to improve his skills.
Mohamed is praised for his avid promotion of sportsmanship, teamwork and positive parent involvement. He embraces and promotes diversity on and off the field; some parents have even compared to him and his team to the United Nations, in regards to his friendliness and the variety of ethnicities on the team.
His coaching philosophy is “to develop young players to become athletes and most importantly, good people.” A former team parent recalls how Mohamed would ask parents about what they would like to see in their child’s development, both on and off the field. “Coach Mohamed is truly interested in developing and enhancing the boys’ soccer skills, and more importantly, helping the boys develop into respectful young men,” she said.
“Coach is always respectful of everyone – his players, his players’ families, other coaches, the other team, the other team members’ families, and the referees. If there is one rule that Coach Mohamed and the team must live by, it is that everyone shows this respect. For example, it does not matter how bad the call is, unless someone is at risk of being injured, the referee is ALWAYS right, and no matter what, the expectation is that the team and parents are always respectful.” – Julie Hotopp, Team Parent
