Maryland State Youth Soccer Association Launches Maryland District ODP
Glen Burnie, MD – February 22, 2017 – The Maryland State Youth Soccer Association is proud to announce the launch of the Maryland District ODP! The Maryland District ODP is the first step for players desiring to represent their state, region and country on one of the US National Teams.
The Maryland District ODP builds upon the structure of the Maryland State ODP by becoming the first step in the process and by creating more opportunities for more players to participate in the Maryland ODP by bringing programming closer to home. Multiple districts are being established across Maryland to aid in reducing the geographical barriers that prevent players from participating. Participants in the Maryland District ODP will receive high-level training before trying out for a spot on the Maryland State training pool for their age group and gender.
“The Maryland District ODP is designed to provide more opportunities for more players from across the state to participate in the Maryland ODP. I am very proud of this initiative and look forward to seeing the positive results across the state” said Mark Cantor, MSYSA President. MSYSA Executive Director, Greg Smith, Ph.D. said “The Maryland District ODP is the latest improvement to the Maryland ODP which has seen many positive tweaks over the past few years. This newest improvement will provide increased opportunities for players from all corners of the state.”
The Maryland District ODP will be phased in over the next four years starting with the 12U age group this fall. For the 2018 season (September 1, 2017- August 31, 2018) players born in 2006 are encouraged to register to tryout for the Maryland District ODP. Tryout registration is scheduled to open in June with tryouts being held at the end of July.
