FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 20, 2011) – The
US Youth Soccer National League Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys showcased their talents in meaningful and competitive matches today at Weston Regional Park in Weston, Fla., in conjunction with the Weston Cup.
The National League provides a unique opportunity of progression for the top teams in the US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues (US Youth Soccer Region I Premier League, Midwest Regional League, Region III Premier League and Far West Regional League). Teams chosen to compete in the league compete against other top teams in the nation with the hopes of earning a ticket to the prestigious
US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Some highlights from today's matches…
Under-15 Boys
OBGC Rangers (MD) are putting the heat on FC Dallas Premier (N-TX) as the Rangers downed Concorde Fire (GA) 3-1 to overtake FC Dallas for first place in the Blue division. Gedion Zelalem notched two goals for Rangers, the first to open the scoring in the 42nd and an insurance goal in the 80th. After Zelalem put Rangers ahead, Tyler Dowse brought Concorde even eight minutes later, but Jeremy Ebobisse put Rangers in front for good with his 66th minute goal. FC Dallas won't resume play until March in Las Vegas, but if Rangers go undefeated on the weekend with a win tomorrow, FC Dallas will need to win two of their three remaining games to move back into first place and win the division championship.
After clawing out a win yesterday to move within a point of division leader Classics Eagles Red (OH-S), Lehigh Valley United 95 (E-PA) missed a big opportunity to move into first place with a 1-1 tie against LAFC Houstonians 96 (S-TX). Houstonians almost took all the points after grabbing the lead in the 25th thanks to Luis Esquivel, but Justin Worley saved a point with his 73rd minute equalizer. Lehigh has one more game to jump Classics and put some pressure on the teams headed to Vegas.
Under-16 Boys
Everest SC Black (OH-N) moved into first place of the Blue division with their second win this weekend, taking down Reston Knights FC (VA) 3-0. Noah Johnson got Everest on the board in the 12th minute before Ronnie Moss sealed the game with goals in the 44th and 55th.
After wrapping up the division championship yesterday, Concorde Fire Elite (GA) dropped their first game of the season to Team Ohio FC Juventus (OH-S) 2-0. Rylee Woods 13th minute goal proved to be the winner, but Mitchell Wiseman added another in the 56th to close it out.
Under-17 Boys
TSC 94 Black (OK) defeated PSC Coppa 93 (E-PA) 3-0 to move to the top of the group and set up a match for the championship with Javanon 94 (KY) tomorrow. Anson Crouch got TSC going with an 8th minute goal and Thomas Carwile scored twice at the end of each half to seal the scoring. TSC sits atop the standings after Javanon's loss today, but will need at least a tie tomorrow or Javanon will claim the title.
The Dallas Texans Red-Dallas (N-TX) are in good position at the top after outlasting Lou Fusz Gold Popovic (MO) 1-0. Karl De Zoeten scored the winner in the 14
th minute. The Texans can't win the group outright with a win tomorrow, but a win would mean only Rush Nike Argonauts (NM) could overtake them.
National League action continues Monday, Feb. 21, at Weston Regional Park with games at 8 and 10 a.m. and Noon ET. For complete standings, scores and schedules,
