Preliminary games day 1 of 3 complete

DES MOINES, Iowa (July 7, 2011) –
The first day of games are complete at the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup at the James W. Cownie Soccer Park in Des Moines, Iowa, featuring teams in the Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls. Region IV (West) came away with the most wins today, posting five victories in all age groups.

The U-14 Boys started the day with loads of goals. After playing evenly for more than an hour, SB Select 96/97 Club Mexico (S-TX) broke the 2-2 tie and scored two late goals to beat Corona Eagles (CA-S) 4-2. Seven different scorers lifted Azteca (KS) over Var Swoosh (VA) 10-1. Azteca was led by Jose Diaz and Alan Sanchez with two goals apiece.

On the girls side, United Futbol Club White (CA-S) started the tournament off with three important points as they beat LAFC Houstonians (S-TX) 5-0. United Futbol Club was lead by Mikayla Casey and Katherine Sasser who each netted a pair of goals. BSA Rage (EPA) and Tri-State Premier (OH-S) played to a scoreless draw in the other U-14 Girls match.

A first half goal off the head of Elijah Summers was all Next Level Soccer Academy (NJ) needed to beat FC Porto (KS) 1-0 in the U-15 Boys bracket. The other match in the age group saw AVSC Ambush (CA-S) come away with a 2-0 victory over Miami Beach Soccer (FL) thanks to goals by Raul Ortega and Jesus Salinas.

In the U-15 Girls pool play, KC Fusion Cummings (KS) beat Capital United (ENY) 3-1 on goals by Kaitlin Minnich, Mary Disidore and Allison Smith. Meghan Malone pulled one back for Capital United late it in the game, but it wasn't enough as KC Fusion was victorious. Madison Adams' two goals helped lift Premier FC Black (WA) over Texas Rush Nike 95/96 (S-TX) 4-2. Alex Penn scored twice for Texas Rush, but goals by Whitney Lowe and Gabriela Pelogi ensured the Premier FC victory.

Eagles FC United (EPA) notched a win in the U-16 Boys bracket with a 2-0 victory over Imo's (MO). Cameron Hoffman scored for Eagles FC in the 37th minute and Alec Kunzweiler sealed the victory on a 78th-minute strike as Imo was pushing for an equalizer. Club America Blue (CA-S) won 5-1 over Holsten Valley FC 95 (TN). After taking a 2-1 lead into half, Club America netted three second-half goals, led by Jose Montesdeoca's double.

Not much separated the U-16 Girls on day one. Super Nova Elite (ID) tallied a 2-1 victory over Albion Hurricane FC (S-TX). Claire Goss added a second half goal to Baylee Blaser's first half strike to secure the three points. The next field over, Schaumburg Premier's 54th-minute goal by Jasmin Lisowski was all it needed to win 1-0 over Penn Legacy Black (EPA).

After a scoreless first half, U-17 Boys Arkansas Rush Nike (AR) took a 1-0 lead over PQ Premier (CA-S) on Ross Richesin's 52nd-minute goal. James Haley answered just two minutes later for PQ Premier and the game ended in a 1-1 draw. Goals by Thomas Sladek and Daniel Sykes lifted TSC FC Townamencin to a 2-0 win over Indiana Invaders Black (IN).

Late heroics lifted Ajax FC Chicago (IL) over Bucks Mont United Blazers (EPA). Jillian Hetfleisch's 85th-minute goal, her second on the day, proved the game winner as Ajax beat Bucks Mont United 2-1. La Roca Premier DC (UT) took a 1-0 lead over Galaxy 94 Gold (GA) into half time on Ivee Barton's 13th-minute goal. But Galaxy would equalize in the 50th minute on a goal by Macey Edwards and the game ended in a 1-1 tie.

The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.

Preliminary play resumes tomorrow at 8 a.m., and the National Presidents Cup champions will be named on Sunday, July 10.
