FRISCO, Texas (September 6, 2006)
– Youth Soccer Month received another assist from President George W. Bush today with a letter recognizing the month-long celebration. President Bush has supported Youth Soccer Month each year through a letter of recognition and support.
Throughout Youth Soccer Month a series of messages and themes will be communicated to illustrate the essence of youth soccer. Each week during Youth Soccer Month a different message will be the focus of “Celebrating Soccer in America.”
The messages are fitness, fun, family and friendship. These messages also further President Bush's vision of a healthier United States, where citizens are physically active every day, value nutrition and avoid risky behaviors.
An excerpt from the letter states, “Soccer is a great game that is enjoyed by countless young Americans across our country. By challenging competitors both mentally and physically, soccer builds character, encourages fitness, and teaches good sportsmanship. Youth Soccer Month is an excellent opportunity for soccer players and their families to come together and celebrate the friendship, fun, and healthy lifestyle that soccer promotes.”
Recognizing the impact and importance the sport of soccer plays in the day-to-day lives of America’s families, US Youth Soccer, with 3.2 million members, the nation’s largest youth sports association is spearheading Youth Soccer Month – Celebrating Soccer in America, this September.
Youth Soccer Month messages will be highlighted and celebrated during the following weeks:
Fitness: (Week of September 4)
The health and fitness (physical, psychological and social) benefits of playing soccer.
Fun: (Week of September 11)
Whether recreational or competitive in nature, involvement in soccer is easy, affordable and rewarding.
Family: (Week of September 18)
Playing soccer ties families together as schedules, vacations and family time are coordinated.
Friendship: (Week of September 25)
The relationships generated through playing soccer extend beyond the field.
Youth Soccer Month will also highlight the various programs available to children interested in participating in soccer, including the inner-city, special needs, recreational and elite soccer programs that have facilitated the growth of the sport at all levels.
