Responsible Sports Parenting in the Summer

July 10, 2011 10:00 PM
Many young athletes spend their summer away from their coaches and teammates when they can recharge physically and mentally. This vacation time is when parents have the most impact on their children and are best able to influence their children for the upcoming season.
An excellent way to make use of this time is to indroduce the "Mastery Approach" to your children. This approach is comprised of the three tenets of Effort, Learning and Mistakes. Research from Sports psychologists athletes who take the ELM Mastery approach consistently get more joy out of playing and are more successful while playing.
The Liberty Mutual Responsible SportsTM program supports volunteer youth sports coaches and parents who help our children succeed both on and off the field.  We offer many youth sports resources including $2,500 community grants, instructional videos, weekly tips, peer and expert advice, and coursework for those interested in improving the youth sports experience for all involved.
