Season Preview: 2010-2011 US Youth Soccer National League Girls

The 2010-2011 US Youth Soccer National League season brings many enhancements to the league – the greatest of which is the expansion from eight teams to 16 teams per gender age group, with the exception of the Under-15 Girls. A total of 40 girls' teams in the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 age groups will take to the field in the opening weekend of girls play starting Thursday, Dec. 2, and running through Sunday, Dec. 5, in Wilson, N.C., at the Wilson Gillette Soccer Complex. Each age group is split into two divisions, blue and red, in which each team plays every team in the division once throughout the season. The top team from each division earns a ticket to the 2011 US Youth Soccer National Championships.

Under-15 Girls
Arsenal Elite (FL) were 2010 Region III Championship semifinalists and have captured back-to-back (2008, 2009) Florida State Championships. …A 2009 Georgia State Championship semifinalists, AFC 96 Elite (GA), found greater success in 2010 as they claimed the state championship title and made it to the Region III Championship Semifinals. …Grand Rapids Crew Juniors Gold (MI) are led by coach Marc Frankland who has taken teams two Michigan State Championships, two Region II Championships and two National Championships. Grand Rapids were 2008 and 2009 Michigan State Championship finalists. …Four ODP Region I players (Amanda Dafonte, Schuyler DeBree, Jessica Vigna, Brianna Robinson), of which two are also National Team players (Schuyler DeBree, Brianna Robinson), are on the 2010 New Jersey State Championship team, Match Fit Chelsea Beat (NJ). …So Cal Blues Pearson (CA-S) are two-time (2005, 2006) Cal South State Champions. …Undefeated through the 2010 Maryland State Championships and Region I Championships, Soccer Association of Columbia United Premier (MD), went on to play at the 2010 National Championships. Three ODP Region I players (Imani Dorsey, Megan Hinz, Danielle Hogarth) hold a spot on Columbia United's roster.

Under-16 Girls Blue
Brandon FC Flames-Blue (FL) come into the league having made it to the 2010 Florida State Championship finals and the Region III Championship quarterfinals. ODP Region III players Karli Gutsche and Aubrey Riggins play with Brandon FC. …Two National Team Players, Sandra Yu and Allison Stucky, hold a place on the Cleveland FC (OH-N) roster. Cleveland FC are back-to-back (2009, 2010) Ohio North State Champions. …As the 2009-2010 National League Champions, Dallas Texans 95 Red (N-TX), are back and looking to earn a return trip to the National Championships. The Dallas Texans roster ODP Region III players Julie Dyche and Sophie Groff. …2009 Region II Champions, Eclipse Select 94/95 (IL), also have two (2008, 2009) Illinois State Championships to their name. …Patriots FC 95 (E-NY) captured their first Eastern New York State Championship in 2010, and enter league play with two ODP Region I players (Erin Felix, Jessica Tarangioli). …2006 and 2008 Cal South State Champions, So Cal Blues Draluck (CA-S), also have a 2008 Region IV Championship to their name. The Blues are entering their second season of league play.

Under-16 Girls Red
As Ohio South State Championship semifinalists in 2007 and 2008 and finalists in 2009, Blast FC (OH-S) captured their first state title in 2010. ...Two-time (2008, 2010) Georgia State Champions, GSA 95 Phoenix Red (GA), take to the field with four ODP Region III players (Anna McClung, Lauren Tanner, Rachel Garcia, Jill Maloney). They were also 2010 Region III Championship Quarterfinalists. Coach Campbell Chapman leads the team into National League play having taken teams to capture four Georgia State Championships (2005, 2006, 2008, 2010) and a Region III Premier League Championship in 2005. …Hurricane FC 95 Shubert (OK) return to the league after taking third place in the 2009-2010 National League season. They have four consecutive (2007-2010) Oklahoma State Championships under their belt, and the 2009 and 2010 Region III Championship finalists also roster three ODP Region III players (Kristen Killion, Elizabeth Keester, Kaela Little). …The reigning Region II Champions, JB Marine Wipke (MO), are back-to-back Missouri State Champions with ODP Region II player Jade Klump on the roster. …Legends Breakaway (CA-S) were Region IV Championship Semifinalists in 2008 and 2009 and 2009 Cal South State Champions. …Five ODP Region I players (Kendal Robino, Adnrea Gunderson, Olivia DiFonso, Loren Reilley, Emily Morgan) are on the 2010 Eastern Pennsylvania State Champions' team, Penn Fusion 94 (E-PA). Robino is also a National Team player. …VSA Heat Blue (VA) were the 2007 Region I Champions, 2009 Region I Semifinalists, 2008 and 2009 Region I Premier League South Champions as well as 2007 and 2009 Virginia State Champions.

Under-17 Girls Blue
The back-to-back (2009, 2010) Tennessee State Champions and 2010 Region III Semifinalists, Brentwood 94 Premier (TN), are set for league action with ODP Region III players Malinda Allen, Allie Kington and Ariel Kupritz. Brentwood also captured the 2008 and 2009 Region III Premier League Central titles. …2007 and 2010 New York West State Champions and 2010 Region I Finalists, Buffalo Soccer Academy Invaders (NY-W), roster ODP Region I player Christina Sarokon. …Entering their third season of league play, FC Pennsylvania Strikers (E-PA) bring a deep resume. The five-time Eastern Pennsylvania State Champions were 2005, 2007 and 2008 Region I Champions, 2010 Region I Premier League finalists and runners-up in the 2008-2009 National League season earning a ticket to the National Championships. The Strikers have six ODP Region I players (Emily Armstrong, Jillian McVicker, Cassandra Pecht, Brittany Ratcliffe, Kelly Kerrigan, Erin Mikolai), two of which are National Team players (Cassandra Pecht, Brittany Ratcliffe). …LaRoca PT (UT) are back-to-back-to-back (2007-2009) Utah State Champions with four ODP Region IV players (Stacy Bair, Shaylee Petersen, Chansi Crompton, Courtnee Wood). Blair is also a National Team player. …Returning to the league after claiming the 2009-2010 National League title, NASA 12 Elite II (GA) are set with nine ODP Region III players (Abby Lutzenkirchen, Iyana Moore, Kelsey Nix, Brittney Reed, Sara Coleman, Alyse Scott, Emily Sonnett, Brooke Theobald, Bria Washington) on the roster. …The 2009 Region IV Champions, So Cal Blues Pearson (CA-S), are also returning to league play with four ODP Region IV players (Dani Weatherholt, Jocelyn Blankenship, Sammy Jo Prudhomme and Madison Krauser). Weatherholt is also a National Team player. …Led by coach Tony Schmitt, a Missouri Coach of the Year, and Denny Hearne, a two-time Missouri Coach of the Year, St. Louis Scott Gallagher (MO), have captured three (2007, 2009 ,2010) Missouri State Championship titles. Nicole Breece is an ODP Region II player. ...In 2008 Toro Bravo (NE) became the first girls' team from Nebraska to capture a Region II Championship and advance to the National Championships. In 2010, they notched their thrid Nebraska State Championship. Goalkeeper Taylor Saucier in an ODP Region II player.

Under-17 Girls Red

With three (2005, 2007, 2010) North Texas State Championships and a 2009 Region III title under their belt, Dallas Texans 94 Girls Red (N-TX) are ready for their third season of league play as they roster four ODP Region III players (Abby Smith, Kelsey Shimmick, Shelby Soldat, Antoinette Bennett). Smith is a U.S. National Team player and Lauren Reyes is a Mexico National Team player. …ODP Region I players Jackie Firenze, Emma Firenze, Tessa Devereaux and Taylor Haenlin are on Empire United SA-Syracuse (NY-W). Empire has two New York West State Championship titles, and coach Mike Paolini was the 2008 New York West Coach of the Year. The Empire United Club was formed when Rochester Junior Rhinos, Syracuse Football Club and Buffalo United Soccer Club joined together in 2007. …Led by coach Keri Sarver, 2009 US Youth Soccer Girls Competitive Coach of the Year, Internationals (OH-N) have three (2006, 2007, 2010) Ohio North State Championships on their resume. Alexandra Haverchak, Elizabeth Robishaw and Christen Westphal are ODP Region II players.…2009 Cal South State Championship Finalists and 2010 Champions, Legends FC (CA-S)went on to play in the 2010 Region IV Championship finals. Kodi Lavrusky and Rylee Baisden are ODP Region IV players, and Lavrusky is also a National Team player. …McLean MPS Strikers (VA) enter the league after claiming the 2010 Virginia State Championship and Region I Championship to go on to play in the National Championship Finals. McLean has two ODP Region I players in Kara Wilson and Lina Granados. ...2009-2010 National League runners-up, NSA Premier Fury (IL), return to the league after staking claim to a 2010 Region II Championships title and two (2008, 2009) Illinois State Championships. ODP Region II player Corinne Harris and National Team player Zoe Smith will take to the field with NSA. …SD Surf 93/94 Premier (CA-S) were a 2010 Cal South State Championship Semifinalists and roster Regina Manneh, an ODP Region IV player. …2009 and 2010 Region III Premier League East Champions and 2010 Region III Championship Finalists, United FA 94 Elite (GA), are two-time (2006, 2009) Georgia State Champions that roster ODP Region III players Kala Faulkner, Ally Jordan and Cheyna Williams who is also a National Team player.
