DVD provides simple guide to developing essential soccer techniques

Frisco, Texas (March 5, 2008)
– Today US Youth Soccer announced the newest title in a series of instructional youth soccer DVDs, Skills School: Developing Essential Soccer Techniques is now available.

In an easy to follow layout, Skills School provides first-time coaches and those who have little experience in coaching young players the basics of all ball skills. From this core set of techniques, the developing player will be able to add on many variations and subtleties to the techniques.

With the release of "Skills School," US Youth Soccer continues its commitment to fostering the mental and physical growth of its players and coaches. The US Youth Soccer Technical Department, in conjunction with Recreation and Coaching committees, are proud to provide a teaching tool to adults, which assists them in providing a positive learning environment for our children. "Skills School" will show all coaches, with varying levels of experience, how to appropriately facilitate a child's soccer learning experience in developing essential soccer techniques.

"Regardless of what coaching background you bring, Skills School provides a tool to better assist a coach in simple techniques that are easily translated to the field," said John Ellinger, technical director for US Youth Soccer. "Even if you've coached players at a high-level this tool is designed to assist you in coaching the youngest players at the recreational level."

Focusing on technique, Skills School teaches the fundamental elements of dribbling, passing, receiving, shooting, tackling and heading for field players as well as basic goal keeping skills. Each skill is shown in full and show motion and broken down into stages to enable coaches to better instruct their young players.

"Developing young athletes' abilities is fundamental in how the game will continue to progress and provide more enjoyment for the player," said Jim Cosgrove, executive director for US Youth Soccer. "Our technical department, as well as those on our recreation and coaching committees, seeks to promote the growth of the game in the United States and believe these DVDs to be a great asset.""
