It is important for parents and coaches to have an open line of communication. Both parties serve as role models for youth soccer players, and ultimately should encourage, as well as mentor, in a fun environment. This month's Positive Parenting article, Communication between Parents and Coaches, analyzes aspects of effective parent-coach relationships, including: understanding of parent and coach roles, philosophy, creating a positive environment, communicating, listening and watching, understanding the game, expectations, benefits of soccer participation, adult solutions and having fun.

The US Youth Soccer Technical Department, in cooperation with the Coaching and Recreational Committees, created the Positive Parenting DVD, a 'view from the sidelines'. The department developed a teaching tool designed for administrators, coaches, parents and anyone who cares about children to assist them in providing a positive learning atmosphere for our children. The DVD assists adults in helping young players play and keeping the fun
