December 31, 2003 09:00 PM

US Youth Soccer’s Board of Directors announced the recipients of the 2003 US Youth Soccer adidas Coach of the Year awards at the US Youth Soccer Workshop and Coaches Convention at the Hynes Convention Center in Boston, Mass.

Jim Craig, goalie for the gold medal U.S. 1980 Olympic hockey team and key note speaker of the event spoke to the capacity crowd of youth soccer coaches, administrators and fans before David Messersmith, president of US Youth Soccer announced the adidas Coaches of the Year winners.

The national adidas Coach of the Year were Marty Limpert of Missouri (Girls) and Kim Perez of Colorado (Boys).

A former Wolfpack Soccer President, Marty Limpert coaches the pack’s Under-16 Girls and Under-19 Boys teams in Missouri.  With 26 years of coaching experience, Marty is heavily involved in Missouri Metro Area soccer and loves to spend time with the area youth through soccer.  Sportsmanship is a focal point in Marty’s training sessions believing that good things tend to follow those who play hard, but fair.

A former first-round selection of the North American Soccer League Chicago Sting, Kim Perez’s Real Colorado Under-13 Boys have 27 years of coaching on their side.  A father first, Kim honors the memory of his fallen son Alex every day with his heart and desire to improve his athletes abilities in soccer and in life.

“The coaches that were honored tonight are far more interested in the child than the wins and loses,” said Jim Craig, gold medallist.  “They play a role in the future of our society and teach these generations that they can achieve anything with discipline, hard work and a positive attitude.”

Recipients of the adidas Coach of the Year award are selected by the US Youth Soccer Board of Directors on the basis of sportsmanship, player development, personal coaching development, and community involvement (citizenship).
