Peri Marosevic (Rockford, IL) scored his 3rd and 4th goals of the US Youth Soccer ODP Boys adidas 89 All Stars (All Stars) European Tour five minutes into the second half of a 0:0 stalemate with Anderlecht. Marosevic one timed a corner kick from Raphael Martinez (Portage, IN) into the upper right corner of the net for the only score of the game, giving the All Stars a hard fought 1:0 victory.
Coach Tim O’Sullivan had high praise for midfielders Lucas Swertloff (Brooklyn, NY) and Giuseppe “Pepe” Carotenuto (Scottsdale, AZ), as well as defender Anthony Wallace.
“Those three guys made it very difficult for Anderlecht to play their game by constantly breaking up plays, as well as starting our offense,” said O’Sullivan. “As a team we’re getting better every game. We beat a very good Anderlecht side today. I’m happy with the boys.”
In the second game of this three team mini tournament the All Stars scored two quick goals and had them stand up for a 2:0 victory to capture the winner’s trophy.
The first goal resulted from a wicked cross at the end line by Justin True (Lee’s Summit, MO). The ball ricocheted off a defender into the back of the net for a 1:0 advantage. Four minutes later Peri Marosevic scored his fourth goal in four games when he collected a beautiful through ball from Pepe Carotenuto and powered a hard shot into the goal for a 2:0 lead.
The All Stars were content to hold this lead, and with inspired play from Andre Giallombardo (Manalapan, NJ) and goalie Matt Walker (Grand Blac, MI) the All Star squad held off any offensive forays from the Brugge strikers to handily dispatch a determined, but outclassed squad.
Coach O’Sullivan said, “We’re getting better every game. I want to end the tour on a positive note Sunday against Mechelen. That will give us four consecutive wins for a great group of kids.”
