US Youth Soccer ODP Region I Announces Added Regional Pools

June 14, 2006 10:00 PM

US Youth Soccer Region I Director Bob Palmeiro recently announced plans to add twelve new regional teams to the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program in Region I. Two teams will be added for both the Under-14 through Under-16 boys and girls programs for the annual US Youth Soccer ODP Interregional events. These new teams will be in addition to the current US Youth Soccer ODP Region I pools that will participate in all other US Youth Soccer ODP events.

One team will be established in the northern section of Region I and the other in the south for each of the age groups, both boys and girls.

These teams will participate in the US Youth Soccer ODP Interregional events where US Soccer National Team coaches attend and pools are selected. In addition, approximately 200 college coaches attend to see the best youth soccer talent in the country.

Bob Palmeiro said during the announcement, "This expansion enhances the program by exposing twice as many US Youth Soccer ODP Region I players to this high level of play and the National team exposure. It also provides additional coaching opportunities on our staff and enhances coaching education in the region."

"This change will give more of our players an opportunity to participate in the premier program, The US Youth Soccer ODP", said Massachusetts State President Sid Bloom.

Annually the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program serves as the resource for selection to national teams, collegiate programs and professional leagues for our country's finest players. Established in 1977, it is the original Olympic development program in the United States. Formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition, selected players are exposed to the nation's top coaches from collegiate institutions, U.S. Soccer and the professional leagues. The only national program, US Youth Soccer ODP has been the common thread of success for those selected to U.S. Soccer National Teams, top collegiate programs and Major League Soccer.
