Family Wins Trip to 2006 MLS Cup
The Hall Family of Merritt Island, Florida, earned a trip to the 2006 MLS Cup in Frisco, Texas, thanks to Youth Soccer Month. The Halls subscribe to US Youth Soccer’s Kwik Kicks online newsletter, and it was here that they learned about Youth Soccer Month and the Shoot and Score contest.
Sarah Hall, a 13-year-old successful soccer player, registered with the help of her mother Teresa. Unfortunately, they didn’t live close enough to a participating Youth Soccer Month college or MLS game, but they do keep up with soccer on the Fox Soccer Channel. Sarah’s father Steve grew up playing soccer in Nottinghamshire, England, and later played on a Royal Navy league team. He keeps up with the English Premiership, MLS and college games.
Sarah is “passionate about the game.” As a seventh grader, she plays on the varsity team at Edgewood Junior/Senior High School, as well as, the Under-13 CBS Cyclones Regional Cup girls’ team and the Under-13 Rockledge Steelers boys’ competitive team. Last year Sarah was the leading scorer for the Under-12 Cyclones team.
She is inspired by Michelle Akers and her favorite player is Thierry Henry. Sarah hopes to play in college, and ultimately be a member of the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Her younger brother Alex is 9 years old and also plays soccer and is on the Under-11 Brevard United boys’ premier competitive team.
“As parents, we are pleased to see more recognition and positive response to youth soccer in our communities, and think that the US Youth Soccer organization is doing a nice job of promoting it on a national level,” said Teresa Hall. “Additionally, Florida Youth Soccer Association has helped this effort by securing sponsors that are active in local promotions such as Publix supermarkets.”
Chosen at random from hundreds of entries, the Halls were provided airfare, hotel, gifts and tickets to the game.
