The celebration of Youth Soccer Month continues, as Mayor David Austin proclaimed September as Youth Soccer Month in Toccoa, Georgia in a ceremony with the North Georgia Youth Soccer Association. Over 150 children participate in youth soccer clubs in Toccoa and the city recently broke ground on a soccer complex.
For many years the North Georgia Youth Soccer Association only had limited access to local soccer fields. After some concerned coaches and parents got involved, a few phone calls later, a project began. The city of Toccoa agreed to lease old baseball fields to the organization to convert into soccer fields.
"We are very excited for the opportunity to have our own home fields. I am grateful to the City of Toccoa for providing such a reasonable lease and allowing us this opportunity," said Toby Goodlett, a volunteer coach for the Under-8 North Georgia Rapids. "By building this soccer complex we hope the new fields will provide more opportunities for children to play soccer in Toccoa."
