Indiana Supports Youth Soccer Month

October 2, 2007 10:00 PM

Indiana went above and beyond this September for the fifth annual Youth Soccer Month Celebration.  Nine college campuses helped Indiana celebrate with 13 events and clinics.  Indiana University held four events.  A number of high schools and youth soccer organizations joined Indiana in celebration as well.  North Central High School held the Great Midwest Classic Soccer Tournament, which is considered the "premier fall high school soccer tournament" in Indiana.

The Chicago Fire designated their game on September 15th against the New York Red Bulls as the official Indiana Youth Soccer night.  The first 5,000 children under the age of 14 received complimentary soccer balls from the Fire.  The Fire put up a good fight, but couldn't overcome the New York Red Bulls and the game ended 2-2 tie.

The Kohl's US Youth Soccer Cup Experience Truck came out to celebrate with the children for the second annual Fort Wayne Kohl's American Cup.  The event was held at the Hefner Fields at The Plex on September 29-30.  Over 2,000 children came out to play over 190 games and celebrate US Youth Soccer.

Overall Indiana had 20 events throughout September to celebrate Youth Soccer Month, seven cities proclaimed September as Youth Soccer Month, as well as the state of Indiana.  Indiana is one of the many state associations that participated in several of the 142 events during the 2007 Youth Soccer Month Celebration.
