Kentucky’s John Duvall honored at Awards Gala

PITTSBURGH (February 9, 2008) - The recipient of the 2007 US Youth Soccer Volunteer of the Year was announced tonight at the US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the 2008 US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center, in Pittsburgh. The national Volunteer of the Year award winner is John Duvall.

Hilary Kennedy, host of The US Youth Soccer Show on Fox Soccer Channel, set the stage for the night as the master of ceremonies for the more than 1,200 in attendance. This year was the first year that US Youth Soccer divided the Coach of the Year award into two categories (competitive and recreational). Several awards were also added including Administrator of the Year, and Goal and Save of the Year. The Male and Female Young Referee of the Year and the Dr. Thomas Fleck Award were also presented during the Gala along with the charter member of the US Youth Soccer Hall of Fame.

John Duvall, of Paris, KY, has served many roles for the Paris Youth Soccer Association over the past eight years. John has coached recreation and competitive teams, worked as a registrar and scheduler, and he currently coaches an Under-14 competitive team. John is also frequently available to referee, making sure all games are adequately covered. On top of all of those responsibilities, he also supervises and maintains the fields and also prepares the materials for off-season storage. Duvall donates his time and effort to ensure that young soccer players in his community have an organization and a facility to pursue their soccer dreams.

The recipient of the Volunteer of the Year award was selected by the US Youth Soccer Board of Directors and is honored as a positive role model who promotes the game and increases the opportunities to participate.
