Brazilians Flip for US Player

April 27, 2008 10:00 PM
A March 2007 trip with her US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) team to Brazil changed the course of one talented player's career. She is a dual-citizen of the United States and Brazil because she was born in Brazil to U.S. citizens. Leah Lynn Gabriela Fortune, 17, now impresses the fans with her signature flip throw as she plays as a member of Brazil's Under-20 women's team. After games, young children flock to her for signatures and she ranks among the top favorites with local fans. Fortune says she loves Brazil and Brazilian soccer, but cannot commit full-time because she is still in school. However, she keeps coming back and has her dreams of playing for Brazil in an Olympics or World Cup competition.  She continues to play for her team in the United States, but enjoys the opportunities she has to play with Brazil.
