May 23 Weekly Update | US Youth Soccer National Championship Series

Starting this Friday, The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series Weekly Update will provide you with an update on the teams that have won their US Youth Soccer State Championships, first leg of the Series, and have earned a slot in the US Youth Soccer Regional Championships. The update is available to those subscribed to US Youth Soccer News and the Insider from http://championships.usyouthsoccer.org. Members of the Insider will also receive more special features and insights this year as the second leg of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series kicks off this June. When you subscribe, you can choose from one or all five championship events to receive updates about.
 
News and Notes are compiled from US Youth Soccer Team Media Forms. If you are a team that has earned a slot in the regional events, contact your US Youth Soccer State Association so that your team manager can complete the US Youth Soccer Team Media Form*.  
*Region I team forms will be completed online through the new US Youth Soccer system.

From Region I…McLean Freedom swept the U16-U18 Girls championships in Virginia. McLean Freedom (U17G) are the returning 2007 US Youth Soccer Region I Champions and hope that their experience in the 2007 US Youth Soccer National Championships will pay dividends in 08…Joining the Freedom, will be two other McLean teams with the Dragons (U16G) and Freedom Elite (U18G)…McLean also picked up a boys title with the U15B Hurricanes…Virginia will wrap up state play June 8 with the U19s… 

From Region II…St. Louis continues its dominance in Missouri with Scott Gallagher taking five of seven titles (U14B, U15B, U17B, U18B, U19B) on the boys side and SLSC taking five of six (U13G, U15G, U16G, U17G)…SLSC U16G are led by Jordan Frick and Elizabeth Sinclair, both 2008 adidas ESP selections…Three years ago St. Louis SC won the 2005 U15G National Championship…Michigan girls have completed their state championships with Michigan Hawks flying away with five titles (U13G, U14G, U15G, U17G, U18G). The Hawks had a chance at another in the U16G but Vardar won the final to clip the Hawks chances of a sweep from U13-U18. This same Vardar team won regionals in 05…Bloomfield Force (U19G), now Force Football Club, won another state title and will look to win five more games to reach the US Youth Soccer National Championships, which they won as U18s last year. The team boasts 21 girls playing NCAA DI soccer and the core of the team has been together since they were seven years old…
 
From Region III…Huntsville SC (HSC) from Alabama swept the U14-U16B state titles while Birmingham United SA (BUSA) swept the U17-U19B titles…HSC U15B features Cole Iverson, the second player from Alabama selected to the U.S. National Team. Cole recently returned from Spain playing with the U15 National Team. Cole has also been selected for 2008 adidas ESP…Zach Clark (HSC U16B) was the only player from north Alabama named to the Alabama US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Boys 1992 team. A record six players were named to the pool this year… BUSA had a great showing in the US Youth Soccer Alabama State Championships with four of six title (U14G, U17G, U18G, U19G)…Vestavia Attack (AL) 92 Blue U16G lost in the 2006 state finals and have now won the last two (07, 08)…
 
From Region IV…Honolulu Bulls SC (HSC) will send three boys state champs (U12B, U16B, U17B) to across the street to the regional championships, in Hawaii this year…HSC Bulls 89 Kaula will look to follow in the footsteps of the 2004 national champion Bulls (U19B) with the 2008 U19B to be determined on May 26…Leahi Premier (HI) will send four state champs (U12G, U13G, U17G, U19G) as HSC took the U15G and U18G titles…Playing in their fifth consecutive US Youth Soccer Cal South State Championship final, the defending U18G US Youth Soccer National Champion Eagles SC of Camarillo, California defeated Laguna Hills Eclipse White 6-5 on penalty kicks to win its third State crown and second in succession.  The match was tied at the conclusion of regulation and again at the end of overtime. A year ago, at the National Championships in Dallas, the Eagles advanced to the finals, where they defeated the Dallas Texans (now Dallas Sting) 3-1 in front of over 3,500 highly vocal spectators…Rio Vista FC (RVFC) (NM) claimed three New Mexico titles (U13G, U16G, U18G). The U16G RVFC 92 Showcase features a team laden with US Youth Soccer ODP experience with 15 of 17 players. The team won the state title in 06, and was a semifinalist in 07…RVFC 90 (U18G) has 15 college commitments on their roster and a deep US Youth Soccer ODP thread. The team has won three state titles in a row (06, 07, 08)…Back-to-back-to-back state champs Classic FC Red Star (06, 07, 08) are again packing their bags for the regional championships representing New Mexico…NM Rush claimed three state titles (U13B, U18B, U14G)…
