FIFA Fair Play Day

August 24, 2008 10:00 PM
Today (Sept. 23), in conjunction with the national Youth Soccer Month celebration is FIFA Fair Play Day. The FIFA Fair Play Day started in 1997 and it has taken place annually ever since. In dozens of countries all over the world, various events are held, but are mainly local events and tournaments for children, from grassroots to professional soccer.
To celebrate, unite in support with friends and teammates using words and actions on and off the field to show the spirit of fair play. FIFA calls upon players, referees, fans and officials in their function as role models to be a shining example of fair play values for the rest of the world. Show your support of good sportsmanship by announcing FIFA Fair Play Day at your game.
The FIFA Fair Play Code for football encapsulates all of the sporting, moral and ethical principles which FIFA has always stood and will continue to fight for in the future. The 10 golden rules not only serve as a credo for FIFA, but they also reinforce the sense of fraternity and cooperation among the members of the worldwide soccer family.
Since 2004, the FIFA Fair Play Day is held throughout the week of 21 September, to enable all FIFA member associations to incorporate the related activities into the soccer fixtures in their respective countries.
