Florida Players with U.S. National Team

September 17, 2008 10:00 PM

Florida Youth Soccer Association, proud member of US Youth Soccer, recently did a scan of players on the U.S. National Teams with ties to the association and found 46 players were active on teams from the Under-14s through the full team.

A standout on the men's team is Zac Macmath who has played 22 games with the Under-17 U.S. Men's National Team, including games at the 2007 FIFA World Cup. Macmath is also a member of the Under-18 and Under-20 national team pools and has toured with Under-23 team in China. As member of US Youth Soccer, he played with the Clearwater Chargers.

Participating in US Youth Soccer and the U.S. Men's National Team, Macmath was heavily scouted by college coaches while he participated in the U.S. Soccer Under-17 Residency Program. In May 2008, when he graduated, Macmath chose to continue his education and soccer career at the University of Maryland.

From the women's team, Morgan Brian, is a young standout. She is a member of the Under-15 and Under-17 U.S. Women's National Teams. Adding to her resume is her participation with US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls 1993 Region III.

In the spring of 2008, Brian traveled to Costa Rica with the US Youth Soccer ODP Region III team where she competed against national teams from other countries like the Under-20 Chile National Team.

Participating in and supporting the various programs that US Youth Soccer offers gives more player the opportunity achieve great things like Macmath and Brian have. Below is a complete list of players from the Florida Youth Soccer Association who have worked their way up to play on the U.S. National Team.

The US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program was formed in 1977 to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team will be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.
