In celebration of Youth Soccer Month, this week's focus is: Fitness.
Learning how to stay fit and how to set fitness goals early in life will help form lasting, healthy habits.
Children are faced with entertainment options like TV, videogames and computers that inhibit their fitness level, but learning how to monitor and implement more creative and active sources of entertainment will lead to a healthier lifestyle.
The best way to get fit is to Get out and Get in the Game® of soccer. Playing a team sport adds to the excitement. When are you are surrounded by people with the same goal of getting and staying fit, it is less of a challenge and makes it feel like you're together just to have fun.
"Learning proper fitness habits and passing those on to younger generations is essential. Playing soccer on a regular basis can act as a key contributor to the fitness of individuals, couples and families alike," said Sam Snow, senior assistant technical director for US Youth Soccer. "With the epidemic of obesity in this country, playing soccer and celebrating the many benefits of the sports is vital to health and fitness levels."
You don't have to be the most skilled player on the field to excel at the game of soccer. Being more fit than your opponent will help you last longer than they can and run circles around them when the final minutes are closing out.
Recognizing the impact and importance the sport of soccer plays in the day-to-day lives of America's families, US Youth Soccer, with 3.2 million members, the nation's largest youth sports association, is spearheading the sixth Youth Soccer Month – Celebrating Soccer in America, this September.
Throughout Youth Soccer Month a series of messages and themes will be communicated to illustrate the essence of youth soccer. Each week during Youth Soccer Month a different message will be the focus of ""Celebrating Soccer in America.""
The four messages of Youth Soccer month are:
·Week of September 1- Fun: Whether recreational or competitive in nature, involvement in soccer is easy, affordable and rewarding.
·Week of September 8 - Family: Playing soccer ties families together as schedules, vacations and family time are coordinated.
·Week of September 15 - Friendship: The relationships and fun generated through playing soccer and their extension beyond the field.
·Week of September 22 - Fitness: The health and fitness (physical, psychological and social) benefits of playing soccer
Youth Soccer Month will also highlight the various programs available to children interested in participating in soccer, including the inner-city, special needs, recreational and elite soccer programs that have facilitated the growth of the sport at all levels.
