Youth Soccer Month Giant Jersey Tour Makes Last Stop at adidas Headquarters

September 25, 2008 10:00 PM

adidas to donate 500 shoes on behalf of Youth Soccer Month for Passback Program

After traveling more than 7,500 miles in a month-long tour across the United States this September, the Youth Soccer Month Giant Jersey Tour makes its final stop at the adidas America headquarters in Portland, Ore., on Tuesday, September 30, from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., to wrap up Youth Soccer Month, the national celebration of youth soccer in America.

The celebration at adidas will include children from Big Brothers Big Sisters Columbia Northwest and Portland area schools who will enjoy the 15-foot Youth Soccer Month Giant Jersey, music and games, with chances to win great prizes, including a trip to a Seattle Sounders game. Players from the Portland Timbers will provide kids' soccer clinics.

A sponsor of US Youth Soccer for 20 years, adidas has invited all employees and their children to join in the festivities. adidas employees will volunteer with Big Brothers Big Sisters as temporary big siblings to children for the afternoon celebration. Through this event, children waiting to be matched with a Big Brother or Big Sister will have a chance to experience a little magic by having a mentor brought into their lives for the half-day activity.

Powering the tour is the Youth Soccer Month branded SUV spreading the excitement of soccer to all and promoting the benefits of a healthy, active lifestyle.  Stickley, the US Youth Soccer mascot, leads the tour taking pictures with fans and at various landmarks along the tour's route, while frequently updating his Youth Soccer Month Blog along the way.

At each stop along the way, the tour collects soccer shoes and equipment as a way to contribute to the U.S. Soccer Foundations Passback Program.  adidas is contributing 500 new soccer shoes to the Passback Program and adidas employees are encouraged to bring shoes and soccer equipment to donate at the event.

The Passback Program helps meet the soccer uniform and equipment needs of all communities, regardless of income, gender or location.  US Youth Soccer and Youth Soccer Month are launching the Foundation's plan of setting the World Record for the longest consecutive line of shoes in January.

Implemented in 2002, Youth Soccer Month raises awareness of youth soccer as well as the benefits of the game while emphasizing the No. 1 youth participation sport in America and a leading contributor to the healthy lifestyles of millions of American families.

Youth Soccer Month is celebrated nationally every September and is dedicated to expanding the game of soccer in America. US Youth Soccer leads the initiative to bring together kids and families of all ages and abilities to reinforce the four fundamentals of soccer: Fun, Family, Friendship and Fitness.
