Opening Day of US Youth Soccer National League Play Showcases Competitive Matches

RALEIGH, N.C. (December 4, 2008) – Elite youth teams from across the country in the Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Girls age groups kicked off the US Youth Soccer National League play at the WakeMed Soccer Park and WRAL Soccer Center in Cary and Raleigh, N.C. today.

Under-15 Girls
The Dallas Texans 94 Red (NTX) and San Diego Surf (CA-S)were evenly matched. Angelica Garcia gave the Texans the lead in the 1st minute. Surf's Alexandra Bailey tied the match just before the half in the 38th.

Defending US Youth Soccer National Champion San Juan Spirits 94 Blue (CA-N) were held to a tie as well by the D'Feeters 94 (NTX). Spirits' Haley Washburn scored what appeared to be the only goal of the game in the 68th, but Lauren Bateman tied the match for the D'Feeters in the 79th.
 
The third tie in the division was the NSA Fury (IL) and the FC Pennsylvania Strikers, 0:0.
 
New to the US Youth Soccer National League this year, the Wall Wombats (NJ) defeated the Michigan Hawks 94 Black, 2:0. Rebecca Dinis and Christina Camassa scored in the 13th and 17th respectfully.

Under-16 Girls
Dallas Texans 93 Red Dallas (NTX) have made it through the first step to reclaiming their national league victory and US Youth Soccer National Championship after defeating Team Boca 92-93 (FL), 2:1. Boca's Anna Cuffina moved quickly in the first (13:00), but it wasn't enough. Texan's Clarissa Wedemeyer and Kelley Monogue scored in the second half for the win.

New Jersey's Montclair United Thunderbolts won their first match against the highly successful Slammers FC (CA-S), 2:1. Lauren Manna and Gabriella Galanti were able to move past the Slammers defense to score in the 40th and 59th. Tessa Andujar scored the Slammer's goal in the 18th.
 
So Cal Blues' Callan Parra scored the only goal of the game in the 24th for the win against Scorpions Elite (MA).
 
Cleveland FC (OH-N) and Eclipse Select 92-93 (IL) tied their high energy 1:1. The intense match challenged both teams.
 
Under-17 Girls
Eclipse Select 91-92 (IL) only needed Erin Pekovich's goal in the 8th for their season opener win.
 
Laguna Hills Eclipse Black (CA-S) played extremely well today against the Dallas Texans Red 92 (NTX), but the Texans made the most of their scoring opportunities. Alyssa Diggs (42:00) and Amanda Frisbie (84:00) made the most of opportunities at the end of each half for the Texans. Texans won 2:1.

Vardar won against Blue Valley Soccer Club Stars Mallorca 91-92, 2:0. Vardar proved that they are a strong team. Nichole Read scored in the 31st and Angela Gerback finished the game with a goal in the 89th.

McLean MPS Dragons (VA) also had a big game against Ela Elite (IL) winning, 3:0. Melissa Downey scored in the 8th, but it was Jennifer Skugerboe who captured the crowd's attention. Skugerboe hit a rocket from outside the box that tripped up the keeper and landed in the goal (33:00). Briana Hovington scored in the 66th.
