First Weekend of Boys US Youth Soccer National League Play Nears the End

Scores and Standings [link]

DALLAS, Texas (Saturday, December 13, 2008) –
With only one day of games left, the competitive nature of the US Youth Soccer National League was in full-swing today as teams worked to solidify their league standings.

There was an extra competitor on the field as the strong winds played a factor in all of today's games. Players were forced to work harder and prove their skills despite the wind. Every League game provides teams with top-notch competition, but today had added value as they learned to adjust to the elements that are out of their control.

"Today we played a really physical team, Coppa, the wind and conditions were very difficult today, but I think it was a fair result, 1:1," said 92 CASL Elite head coach Bruce Murray. "The kids really battled; the elements were really difficult today, but that's good because kids need to learn how to play in different conditions."

The Baltimore Casa Mia Bays 94 (MD) slated their second win in League play today against Sockers FC Chicago (IL). Gavin McBride netted the first goal in the 23rd, and Michael Gamble took advantage of a 46th minute PK to take the 2:0 win for the Bays.

An own goal in the 4th minute put SCSA 93 Gold (NC) on the board and up 1:0 over Michigan Jaguars and SCSA stretched the lead to 3:0 with goals by Zhuvonte Wilson (19:00) Erick Suarez (33:00). In the 58th, Michael Tolkacz put the Jaguars on the board, but with only minutes left in the game, Kyle Parker finished it off for a 4:1 SCSA victory.

Grand Rapids Crew Juniors-Bergsma (MI) took control of the first half against TFC 94 (NTX), posting two goals from Jason Stacy (21:00) and Caleb Postlewait (24:00). The second half, TFC's William Simonds (79:00) and Edgar Hernandez (80:00+) worked to end the game with a 2:2 tie.

A second tie in the age group came from the Solar Red 94 (NTX) and Waza FC 94 Black (MI) game. Waza opened the game with a 6th minute goal from Cameron Roberts and Solar's Eric Dinka scored in minute 34. Solar will go into the final day of League play in Dallas tied for first with the Bays.

The Dallas Texans Red 93 (NTX) took a 1:0 lead over Blast FC Red (OH-S) in the 9th minute thanks to Chase Minter. Blast was unable to follow through with a goal of their own, and the game ended 1:0.

Aaron White, current top scorer for Under-16 Boys, hit the first shot for 92 CASL Elite (NC), leaving Spirit United Coppa 82(EPA) down 1:0 to until the 75th minute when John Frederick scored the equalizer. The game ended 1:1.

The GSA 93 Phoenix Red (GA) v. FC Delco (EPA) and KCFC Rangers 92-93 (KS) v. Chicago Fire Jrs (IL) games ended in a 0:0 draw.

Reed Williams and Amilcar Oliveros gave Slammers FC (CA-S) the early lead by scoring the 20th and 25th minutes against Cobb FC (GA). Reed Williams netted another one in the 40th, and Cobb's Darvin Ebanks shot one past the keeper in the 77th. The 3:1 win marked the Slammers first victory of the 08-09 National League season.

There was no stopping YMS Xplosion (EPA) today as they rallied a 7:0 win over Santa Clara Sporting 91 (CA-N). Jonathan Louisignau started the scoring with back-to-back 19th and 20th minute goals, followed by Jacob Fields in the 24th. Ten minutes later, Emmanuel Sanchez scored, followed by James Ockfurd in minute 43. The final two points came from Jacob Fields (65:00) and Christopher Wysocki (82:00). YMS is tied for first with Dallas Texans – Houston Division 92 Red (STX).

The Dallas Texans – Houston Division 92 Red (STX) held their opponent, Team Ohio (OH-S), scoreless in today's match up that ended 4:0. Up 1:0 after the first half from a Taylor Lavalle 20th goal, Michael Parrish chipped one past the keeper in the 56th and Connor Finley wrapped it up with back-to-back goals late in the game.

Lower Merion Velez (EPA) and Manhattan Phoenix (ENY) each notched their second tie of the weekend after the 1:1 draw from their game. The favor was on Manhattan's side most of the game thanks to an 11th minute shot from D. "Mac" Wilkinson, but Merion finally found their finishing shot from Julien Aoyama in the 81st.
