Coaching Education | April 2009

March 31, 2009 10:00 PM

Many over-estimate when a through ball is "on."  Too often, coaches join in with parents and spectators as they cheer for the player to kick the ball and make the long pass. However, the coach should know to only chime in when it's truly the right situation for the player to play the through ball. This month's Coaching Education article from US Youth Soccer's Interim Technical Director Sam Snow goes in-depth to teach coaches how to explain to their players when it is "on" to make the long penetrating pass into the attacking half; a.k.a., the through ball.
