FRISCO, Texas (April 15, 2009) – The US Youth Soccer National League Under-17 Boys will make up two games on Saturday, April 18. YMS Xplosion (E-PA) and Lower Merion Velez (E-PA) will play at Drexel University in Philadelphia at 7:15 p.m. ET and the Dallas Texans – Houston 92 Red (S-TX) and Cobb FC (GA) will play at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss., at 5 p.m. CT.
"This is the most significant weekend of play for the Under-17 Boys as the two games determine final standings, a US Youth Soccer National League champion and which two teams will advance to the US Youth Soccer National Championships this July in Lancaster, Mass.," said Paul Luchowski, US Youth Soccer National League commissioner.
YMS and Lower Merion, two Eastern Pennsylvania rivals, are tied with 14 points and are going head-to-head to secure one of the top spots in the National League, adding to that dynamic, the Texans-Houston are only one point behind at 13.
The National League is comprised of the top teams in the nation who have earned their spots through advancement from one of the four US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues. Throughout League play, teams not only seek elite development and identification, but they also vie for one of the coveted top two spots in the League, which provides a direct path to the annual US Youth Soccer National Championships.
The US Youth Soccer National Championships, established in 1976, is the country's most prestigious national youth soccer tournament, providing the opportunity for teams to showcase their soccer skills against the best competition in the nation while emphasizing teamwork, discipline and fair play.
