INDIANAPOLIS, IN (Sept 23, 2009) – The Indiana Youth Soccer Board of Directors announced today that Executive Director Don Rawson has tendered his resignation. Rawson, who served the organization since 2000, has accepted a position as the Executive Director of Massachusetts Youth Soccer effective October 16, 2009.
In his letter of resignation, Rawson said a change in leadership in the Indiana Youth Soccer state office could help the organization achieve new heights by focusing on the broader goals of the Strategic Plan.
"Over the last nine years, many changes to Indiana Youth Soccer programs, services and events have been positive and helpful in creating and maintaining a positive, fun, healthy and safe youth soccer environment," said Rawson. "I believe that new leadership in the state office will allow this organization to reach some of the most important goals offered in the Strategic Plan, making optimal use of the new governance structure put into place three years ago and supporting the efforts of the Board of Directors."
Prior to leading Indiana Youth Soccer, Rawson worked in marketing for Reebok and adidas and served as the Director of Operations for the 1994 World Cup Chicago venue. He served as an assistant coach for the Indiana University Men's Soccer Team and was awarded the inaugural Jerry Yeagley Award for Exceptional Personal Achievement by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) in 2006. "Don Rawson has been an exemplary and tireless Director and has, in many ways, become the face of youth soccer in Indiana," said Indiana Youth Soccer President Murray Clark. "His passion for creating a better youth soccer environment with a commitment to teamwork, leadership, character development and family values is extraordinary. On behalf of the all those associated with youth soccer in Indiana, I thank Don for his remarkable service and wish him the best in his new endeavors."
The Board is exploring a full range of options as it considers Rawson's successor. In accordance with the adopted bylaws and resolutions of the organization, the Executive Committee, on behalf of the Board, is leading the process to fill the personnel vacancy. The Executive Committee includes: President Murray Clark, Vice President Jack Hiler, Secretary Pat Callahan and Treasurer Joe Fistrovich.
Rawson thanked the membership for allowing him to serve while affirming his commitment to a seamless and successful transition of leadership.
"I look forward to watching as Indiana Youth Soccer continues to grow while providing outstanding leadership and support for the member leagues, clubs, and thousands of adult caretakers who serve as coaches, managers, registrars, board members, referees - all helping to create smiles on children's faces for the Good of Youth Soccer," said Rawson.
