Former US Youth Soccer Goal of the Year finalist Whitney Hooper is now scoring goals in the collegiate game. The Houston native found success at the youth level leading her Challenge (S-TX) club team to the 2008 US Youth Soccer National Championships, as well as competing as a member of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Region III and South Texas teams. Now a junior at Texas A&M University, Hooper was awarded the NSCAA Player of the Week honors for Sept. 23 after scoring game-winning goals in both Aggies victories last week.
Hooper netted three goals for six points last weekend to lead 13th ranked A&M to a pair of victories. In the Aggies' upset of previously unbeaten No. 2 Portland, Hooper scored two goals, including the game winner. She produced another game-winning goal in A&M's 4-0 shutout of Sam Houston State on Sunday. Over the weekend, Hooper led the team in almost every offensive category with six points, three goals, eight shots and five shots on goal. She currently leads the team with four goals, nine points and a .250 shot percentage on the season. In addition to NSCAA honors, Hooper was also named the Big 12 Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.
In 2008, Hooper was a finalist for US Youth Soccer's Goal of the Year award. The annual US Youth Soccer Awards Gala, held in conjunction with the US Youth Soccer adidas Workshop
