MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (July 8, 2010) – The first day of games are complete at the
2010 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup at the Richard Siegel Soccer Complex in Murfreesboro, Tenn., featuring teams in the Under-14 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups.
The Presidents Cup is designed for those teams seeking additional challenges to play against teams of similar abilities for a national title. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
The first day of preliminary play displayed strong talent and evenly matched teams, with many games ending in a draw. Here are highlights from today's games.
Both Under-14 Girls matches ended with 2-0 results. Bethesda Threat (MD) defeated Freedom Soccer Club Blue (OH-S) with goals from Meagan Klebanoff in the 4th and Kenza Mdarhi Alaoui wrapped up the Bethesda win with a 70th minute goal. PVSC Exiles Black (CA-S) marked their day one win over Forsyth Fusion 96 Gold (GA) thanks to Karlee Neer and Sarah Sanger goals in the 7th and 43rd minutes.
The Under-15 Girls Miami Lakes Soccer Club (FL) and Palmdale Thunder 94 (CA-S) knotted a 0-0 final score in the first day of preliminary play and Freedom Soccer Club Blue (OH-S) topped FC Napoli (MA) 2-1. Freedom's Elizabeth Awuah opened with an 8th minute goal followed up by teammate Wesley Thompson's in the 32nd, and Emily Dawidczyk had the lone Napoli goal.
The Under-16 girls' games both knotted at 1-1. St. Louis Scott Gallagher Red (MO) slotted an 8th minute Kayla Gajewski goal over Manhattan Kickers SC 93 (E-NY), but Manhattan countered two minutes later with an Emma Almon goal for the eventual 1-1 final score. The other 1-1 result came between AR Rush Nike 94 (AR) and South Bay Force Blue (CA-S) with the games' two goals coming from Rush's Caitlyn Carroll in the 13th and South Bay's Lauren Rodriguez in the 69th.
SVSC Eclipse (CA-S) and Central Brevard Cyclones (FL) Under-17 Girls marked a 1-1 draw with Western United FC (MA) and SFE Fusion (IN) upping the action for a 4-2 Fusion victory. Western United opened with a Hanna Strong 6th minute goal and after the half, Fusion's Lauren Joray evened the score 1-1. Sarah Waltsak put Western United back in the lead in the 56th, but Fusion came back for the win with goals from Emma Smith (73'), Kallie Shepler-Tucker (81') and Abigail Springer (86').
The Under-14 Boys games saw clear results in day one with Shalrie Joseph SC (MA) defeating Cincinnati United Premier Crew Jr. Silver (OH-S) 6-1 and AVSC Ambush (CA-S) slating a 4-1 win over IMG Soccer Academy (FL).
VFC Blast (MA) Under-15 Boys marked a 1-0 victory over Millennium SA Fire (IN) with Lawrence Serugo netting the eventual game-winner in the 42nd. Texas Rush Nike 94/95 (S-TX) and Sagebrush United Red (NV) Under-15 Boys marked a 2-2 draw after Sagebrush's Kevin Partida and Christian Martinez matched Rush's first-half goals by Michael Perales and Jose Sanchez.

A 9th minute Chazz Cameron goal for So Cal Rush 92 Nike (CA-S) Under-17 Boys was the eventual game winner against Texas Rush Nike 92/93 (S-TX). Also in the Under-17 Boys age group, Cutters 93 Red (IN) slated a 3-2 victory over DSB Kickers (DE) thanks to Amos Schreuder's hat trick.
