FRISCO, Texas (Dec. 13, 2010) –
The US Youth Soccer National League
Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Girls teams will resume league play Dec. 31 – Jan. 2 in Orlando, Fla., at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex in conjunction with the Disney Soccer Showcase.
Games will feature four of eight girls' teams per division age group with the remaining girls' teams competing at the 2011 Player's Soccer Showcase in Las Vegas, March 18-20, to finalize league standings. As with tradition, each weekend of play is held alongside a major college showcase event creating another significant opportunity for the nation's collegiate, professional and national team coaches to see National League players in an environment of meaningful play.
"Opening the fourth season of the US Youth Soccer National League added another successful chapter to the league as teams played for a top spot in the standings and to showcase the exceptional talents of each player as college coaches filled the sidelines looking for future playmakers at the next level. We look forward to the same extraordinary level of play as four of eight girls' teams from each division age group compete in Orlando, Fla., in games that will finalize their league standings and possibly earn them the right to advance to the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championships," said Paul Luchowski, US Youth Soccer National League Commissioner.
The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues [US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Premier League, Midwest Regional League, Region III (South) Premier League and Far West Regional League] in which the top teams are eligible to continue the path of succession into the National League where the ultimate prize is qualifying for the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Since its inception, National League teams have captured a combined 10 National Championships. In 2008, seven of the eight championship finals slots in the Under-15 and 16 age groups were won by National League teams, which resulted in the league's first four National Championships. The league notched four more National Championship titles in 2009 including the Under-15 Boys (Baltimore Casa Mia Bays) and Girls (San Diego Surf) as well as Under-16 Boys (Dallas Texans 93 Red) and Under-17 Girls (Eclipse Select). At the 2010 National Championships, league participants took home titles in the Under-15 Boys (Baltimore Bays Chelsea) and Under-17 Girls (So Cal Blues Dodge) age groups.
