FRISCO, Texas (Feb. 8, 2011) – The US Youth Soccer National League Under-15, Under-16 and Under-17 Boys teams will resume league play Feb. 19-21 in Weston, Fla., at the Weston Regional Park in conjunction with the Weston Cup.
Games will feature four of eight boys' teams per division age group with the remaining boys' teams competing at the 2011 Player's Soccer Showcase in Las Vegas, March 18-20, to finalize league standings. As with tradition, each weekend of play is held alongside a major college showcase event creating another significant opportunity for the nation's collegiate, professional and national team coaches to see National League players in an environment of meaningful play.
"The US Youth Soccer National League continues to achieve great results in its fourth season as three girls' teams have already earned their ticket to the US Youth Soccer National Championships this July. The tradition of showcasing the league's exceptional talents to the college coaches who fill the sidelines during each weekend of play will hold true in Weston, Fla., as four of eight boys' teams from each division age group compete in games that will finalize their league standings and possibly earn them the right to advance to the prestigious National Championships," said Paul Luchowski, US Youth Soccer National League Commissioner.
The National League is an extension of the highly successful US Youth Soccer Regional Leagues [US Youth Soccer Region I (East) Premier League, Midwest Regional League, Region III (South) Premier League and Far West Regional League] in which the top teams are eligible to continue the path of succession into the National League where the ultimate prize is qualifying for the prestigious US Youth Soccer National Championships.
Since its inception, National League teams have captured a combined 10 National Championships. In 2008, seven of the eight championship finals slots in the Under-15 and 16 age groups were won by National League teams, which resulted in the league's first four National Championships. The league notched four more National Championship titles in 2009 including the Under-15 Boys (Baltimore Casa Mia Bays) and Girls (San Diego Surf) as well as Under-16 Boys (Dallas Texans 93 Red) and Under-17 Girls (Eclipse Select). At the 2010 National Championships, league participants took home titles in the Under-15 Boys (Baltimore Bays Chelsea) and Under-17 Girls (So Cal Blues Dodge) age groups. Following the Weston, Fla. event, the 2010-2011 National League season will wrap up alongside the Player's 2011 Soccer Showcase in Las Vegas, March 18-20.
