The U.S. Under-15 Boys' National Team has convened for a week-long camp as U.S. Soccer Director of Scouting Tony Lepore has called 36 players into camp, 26 of which are members of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP). , and 10 whose club teams advanced to the regional stage of the US Youth Soccer National Championship Series
last summer. The U.S. camp began Sunday, Dec. 11, and wraps up Dec. 18 at Premier Sports Campus in Lakewood Ranch, Fla.
Represented at the camp are players from Albion SC (CA-S), GSA Phoenix (GA), Lehigh Valley United (E-PA), and OBGC Rangers (MD), whose teams have qualified to compete in this year's U-15 Boys National League season. Also among those selected was Amirgy Pineda of the Fullerton Rangers (CA-S), captain for last year's U-14 US Youth Soccer National Champions and a tournament Best 11 selection.
The US Youth Soccer National Championship Series, Regional and National Leagues provide the highest level of competition available to teams throughout the country. US Youth Soccer competitions are open for any team to qualify and each team has to earn their advancement to the next stage, truly matching the best teams together at each stage and creating the most competitive environment for the nation's top players to develop.
US Youth Soccer ODP is the premier identification and development program in the country, and prepares players for selection to the U.S. National Team programs by bringing together the best players from their club teams to compete in state, regional, national and international competitions, mimicking the U.S. National Team system. US Youth Soccer ODP is open to any player to tryout and advance through their state and regional programs, and offers players the chance at the highest level of development, competition and identification for potential professional and National Team programs.
Players selected to US Youth Soccer ODP are exposed to the nation's top coaches from collegiate institutions, U.S. Soccer and the professional leagues. Programs exist in each state and with competitions such as the US Youth Soccer ODP Championships, Interregional Training/Competition, Regional Camps and International play. US Youth Soccer ODP continues to lead the way in elite player identification and development. US Youth Soccer ODP is an approved program of the U.S. Soccer Federation.
Established in 1977, US Youth Soccer ODP is the original Olympic development program in the United States and was formed to identify a pool of players in each age group from which a National Team could be selected for international competition; to provide high-level training to benefit and enhance the development of players at all levels; and, through the use of carefully selected and licensed coaches, develop a mechanism for the exchange of ideas and curriculum to improve all levels of coaching.
