2012 Girls ODP Thanksgiving Interregional - Day 3

Boca Raton, Fla. (Nov. 20, 2012) – The third day of the US Youth Soccer Olympic Development Program (US Youth Soccer ODP) Girls Thanksgiving Interregional took place on Tuesday, November 20., and featured the second appearances of the 1995 and 1996 age groups at Spanish River Athletic Park. U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director April Heinrichs was on site, as well as many college coaches.

 

 

The high level of talent and elite competition continued to be exceptionally displayed in Boca Raton, Fla. U.S. Soccer Youth Technical Director, April Heinrichs – a former U.S. Women’s National Team coach and player that can boast winning the first ever FIFA Women’s World Cup in 1991 - was on site, along with over 50 college coaches to observe the playing abilities of some of the nation’s top female players, for selection to the next level of play. 

 

 

More US Youth Soccer ODP players have been called into Youth National Team camps than any other ID program, including 129 of 148 players called into U-14, U-15, U-17 and U-18 camps since September 2011. US Youth Soccer ODP, the nation's original player identification program, has continued its tradition of elite competition and player development for more than 30 years, and is the only development program that can claim members of Major League Soccer and the Men’s and Women’s National Teams. Highlights from today’s matches

 

95 Girls: Region II vs. Region I

Region II and Region I battled it out in the first half, going into halftime with a 1-1 tie. Alani Johnson scored for Region I, but Nicky Waldeck immediately scored for Region II three minutes later. Meegan Johnston secured the win for Region II in the 2nd half with her 51st minute tally.

 

96 Girls: Region IV vs. Region I

Region I obtained a 2-0 win over Region IV by getting a goal in each half by strikers Charlotte Williams in the 40th minute and Kayla Saager in the 58th minute of play.

 

95 Girls: Region IV vs. Region III

Midfielder Claire Winter and forward Breanna McCallum gave their Region IV team a 2-0 win against Region III. Winter scored early in the 6th minute of the game, and McCallum ended the game by scoring in the 76th minute.

 

96 Girls: Region II vs. Region III

Region II and Region III closed Day 3 with the only tie of the day. Region III got the lead when it got on the scoreboard early in the first half with Mary Palmer’s 7th minute strike, but Region II leveled the score in the 64th minute with April Bockin’s goal, resulting in a 1-1 score.
