OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (June 13, 2013) – The 2013 US Youth Soccer Region II Presidents Cup is now underway in Overland Park, Kan. The four-day tournament which takes place June 13-16 kicked off today with the Under-13 through Under-17 boys and girls age groups starting the action at Overland Park Soccer Complex.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
Highlights from today’s matches:
Under-13 Boys: Chicago Kickers 99 Red (IL) 2-1 Oregon Strikers (WI)
The first round of boys matches saw a 2-1 win by the Chicago Kickers. Within the first 12 minutes, Virgil Cannon and Gabriel Tijerina opened up the scoring for the Chicago Kickers. Although Oregon’s Zachary Pasley followed up immediately a minute later, the 2-1 lead held strong for the remainder of the game.
Under-14 Boys: Rushmore SC (SD) 1-0 Neenah Gunners (WI)
South Dakota team Rushmore SC claimed a 1-0 victory over Neenah Gunners from Wisconsin. A goal by Jacob Hall right before the end of the first half and Rushmore’s strong defense in the second half earned Rushmore the win.
Under-15 Boys: NSC Fire (WI) 4-3 Classics Eagles Black (OH-S)
In a game full of first-half action, NSC Fire defeated the Classics Eagles 4-3. The Eagles got on the scoreboard first with Shaeffer Smith’s 7th minute goal, but NSC retaliated immediately with two back-to-back goals by Hunter Domnick and Lars Nordang. Eagles striker Shaeffer Smith wasn’t done scoring just yet though, and he quickly gave his team the equalizer in the 15th minute and then the lead in the 19th minute. Just a minute later, NSCF’s Nathan Passow turned the tables and tied the game before the end of the first half. It wouldn’t be until the 62nd minute that NSCF would eventually get the lead and the victory with Lars Nordang winning goal.
Under-16 Boys: Mac United Phrenic (MO) 2-2 LSA East '97 (KY)
Lots of back and forth in the U-16 boys match between Mac United and LSA East. MAC’s Gabriel Gassman scored first in the 26th minute – the only goal of the first half. The second half continued with an LSA goal in the 49th minute by Vincent Lewellen and a MAC goal a minute later by Gabriel Gassman. LSA got the equalizer however when Cole Meredith scored at the 60 minute mark.
Under-17 Boys: Frankfort Fury (KY) 2-0 Libertyville Premier 95B (IL)
A pair of goals by Daniel Steele gave Frankfort Fury a 2-0 win over Libertyville Premier. Steele scored in the 8th minute of the first half and in the 50th minute of the second half.
Under-13 Girls: FC United Select (IL) 6-0 TC Storm Black (ND)
Great performances by Vanessa Eljaiek, Savannah Noethlich and their team gave FC United a 6-0 victory over TC Storm Black. Eljaiek attained a hat trick by consecutively scoring the first three goals of the match in the 18th, 42nd and 44th minute. Whitney Hoban added to her team’s win with a 46th minute goal, and Noethlich successfully added a pair of goals in the 48th and 54th minute.
Under-14 Girls: Missouri Rush SC Swoosh (MO) 1-0 KC Legends WCII (KS)
Missouri Rush got an early lead that would help them defeat the KC Legends 1-0. Morgan Weller scored in the 10th minute of play and Missouri’s defense kept the shutout throughout the rest of the match.
Under-15 Girls: Cincinnati West SC Force (OH-S) 5-2 Real STL Novas (MO)
Cincinnati West SC Force was victorious with their 5-2 win against Real STL Novas. CWSC Force came strong by scoring the first five goals of the match (Rosie Nienaber 6:00; Nicole Faulkner 25:00, Allie Hiatt 28:00, Rosie Nienaber 52:00, and Maddie Hiatt 58:00). Real STL Nova’s Emily Sindelar and Lauren Krodinger gave their team a pair of goals in the 65th and 79th minute, but Cincinnati’s dominant lead gave them the win.
Under-16 Girls: Cincinnati West SC United Red (OH-S) 1-0 FCE Shooting Stars (IN)
In the U-16 girls matchup between Cincinnati West SC United and FCE Shooting Stars, Hayley DePue helped give her Cincinnati team a 1-0 win with the lone goal of the match in the 18th minute.
Under-17 Girls: Panathinaikos Academy (MO) 4-1 Classics Eagles Red (OH-S)
Panathinaikos Academy defeated Classics Eagles Red 4-1 in their U-17 girls matchup. Kaitlin Podmore gave Panathinaikos the lead in the 16th minute, and her teammates contributed with three additional goals: Katherine Kanzler 29:00, Kaley Hill 65:00 and Meredith Wendt 74:00. CEFC’s Chloe Kent put her team on the scoreboard late in the 80th minute, but Panathinaikos four goals earned them the win.
