MORGAN HILL, Calif. (June 11, 2014) – The 2014 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup is now underway in Morgan Hill, Calif. The five-day tournament which takes place June 11-15 kicked off Wednesday with the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups starting the action at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex.
The tournament features 130 US Youth Soccer teams from US Youth Soccer Region IV (West) competing for a regional title, and a berth to the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 10-13 in Greenville, S.C.
Preliminary games will take place from Wednesday, June 11 through Friday, June 13. Quarterfinal matches will be held from Friday, June 13 through Saturday, June 14. Semifinal matches will take place on Saturday, June 14, and regional champions will be crowned following final matches on Sunday, June 15.
California-North Youth Soccer Association will host the event, and the other 13 State Associations represented include Alaska, Arizona, California-South, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
Under-13 Boys: HG Eagles (CA-S) 2-1 Eastside FC White (WA)
The HG Eagles from Cal-South kicked off Region IV Presidents Cup with an exciting Under-13 Boys morning match against Eastside FC White from Washington. Alexander Escobedo opened up the scoring for the Eagles with a goal in the 25th minute, and gave his team a 1-0 lead at halftime. Eastside FC got the equalizer in the second half with an Aaron Greenstein goal in the 42nd minute. The deciding goal occurred in the 63rd minute when Escobedo was able to find the back of the net for a second time giving the Eagles a 2-1 win.
Under-14 Girls: FC Nova Pink (ID) 3-1 Broomfield Blast 00 Red (CO)
Lots of second-half action ensued in the Under-14 Girls match between FC Nova Pink (ID) and Broomfield Blast 00 Red (CO). FC Nova Pink’s Annastasia Frizzell broke the stalemate in the 49th minute, and her teammate Journi Neitzel followed immediately after with a pair of goals in the 52nd and 56th minutes. Dailey Breauna got Broofield Blast on the board in the 69th minute, but ultimately FC Nova Pink came out victorious with a 3-1 win.
Under-15 Boys: Phoenix Premier FC (AZ) 2-2 Infinity SC '99 Premier JC (UT)
Phoenix Premier FC from Arizona tied Infinity SC Premier from Utah 2-2 in Under-15 Boys play. Infinity’s Reynaldo Hernandez Ramirez scored quickly in the 9th minute, but Phoenix Premier’s Victor Costich responded in the 30th minute and tied the game before going into the half. In the second half, Ismael Hernandez gave Phoenix Premier the lead in the 53rd minute, but Infinity refused to be defeated and Gabriel Sanchez found the equalizer in the last minute of the match.
Under-16 Girls: Cen Cal United Soccer Club (CA-N) 0-6 Lady Nomad (NV)
Lady Nomad from Nevada got a notable 6-0 win against Under-16 Girls team Cen Cal United from Cal-North. Allison Piccinini scored the lone goal of the first half in the 38th minute of play. Lady Nomad entered the second half vigorously, and got five additional goals and a shutout. Gabrielle Etem found the back of the net in the 42nd minute, Rachel Henley scored in the 46th minute and Mackenzie Reynolds notched a tally in the 63rd minute. Piccinnini was able to score a second goal in the 73rd minute, and Tatiana Hagan concluded the match with a goal in the 75th minute.
