MORGAN HILL, Calif. (June 12, 2014) – The 2014 US Youth Soccer Region IV Presidents Cup continued its second day of play in Morgan Hill, Calif. with the Under-13 through Under-17 Boys and Girls age groups at the Morgan Hill Sports Complex.
The tournament takes place June 11-15 and features 130 US Youth Soccer teams from US Youth Soccer Region IV (West) competing for a regional title, and a berth to the 2014 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup, July 10-13 in Greenville, S.C.
The US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup is designed for teams seeking additional challenges to play for a national title against teams of similar abilities. The cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams that might not otherwise get the opportunity to participate in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.
Under-13 Girls: CO Storm Royal -Mossavian (CO) 1-1 Bombers Elite (UT)
Bombers Elite from Utah faced Under-13 Girls team CO Storm Royal – Mossavian from Colorado in a match which saw much excitement within the first 10 minutes of play. Co Storm took the lead with Savannah Stanovich’s 10th minute tally, but merely seconds later Jade Lily Poulton from Bombers Elite leveled the match in the 11th minute. Both teams battled it out for the remainder of the match, but strong defenses on both sides resulted in a final score of 1-1.
Under-14 Boys: CISC Velocity Blue (AK) 1-0 Idaho Rush (ID)
CISC Velocity Blue from Alaska defeated Under-14 Boys squad Idaho Rush with a first half goal. Derek Stone found the back of the net in the 31st minute, and CISC Velocity’s defense kept the shutout for the remainder of the second half.
Under-15 Girls: SFVSC Athena Red (CA-N) 0-1 Roseville Impulse (CA-N)
In a battle between two Under-15 Girls Cal-North teams, Roseville Impulse defeated SFVSC Athena Red 1-0. McKenna Andrew’s speedy 4th minute goal held for the entire match to give Impulse the win.
Under-16 Boys: NUU United 98 Premiere (UT) 2-1 FWFC 97 Blue (WA)
NUU United Premiere from Utah defeated Under-16 Boys team FWFC Blue from Washington 2-1. NUU United opened the scoring when Jaden Wood ran up the right flank and crossed a ball to Jonathan Guadarrama who slotted it past the keeper in the 23rd minute. Wood then got a goal himself, slyly beating the last defender and the keeper to score in the 26th minute. Blair Hoefel was able to put FWFC on the board before halftime in the 37th minute, but NUU United ultimately got the 2-1 victory.
Under-17 Girls: California Elite Soccer Club (CA-S) 1-0 Pros 97 Excel (AZ)
Stephanie Garcia’s 25th minute goal gave Under-17 Girls team California Elite Soccer Club a 1-0 victory against Pros 97 Excel from Arizona. Pros 97 Excel’s offense tried to find the equalizer in the second half, but CESC’s strong defense didn’t allow them to get through, keeping them undefeated after two tournament games.
