GREENVILLE, S.C. (July 10, 2014) – The 2014 US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup kicked off Thursday at the MESA Soccer Complex in Greenville, S.C. The four-day event features 40 US Youth Soccer Boys and Girls teams in the Under-13 through Under-17 age groups that have earned their way to the National Presidents Cup via success in their respective US Youth Soccer Regional Presidents Cup events.

In addition to playing for a national title, various head coaches believe the National Presidents Cup helps develop their players' abilities by providing them the opportunity to play against teams from different regions of the country.

“I feel like the US Youth Soccer Presidents Cup just gives a great opportunity for the girls to have good competition,” said Cara Fisher, head coach of Under-16 Girls team Classics Eagles Black (OH-S). “There’s nothing like being at the National Presidents Cup. It’s exciting to be at this level and get to play teams from other States and other Regions.”

“We didn’t expect that we would be here,” said Mike Zile, head coach of Under-16 Boys team Mid Rivers Soccer Club - Tigers (MO). “It’s an honor to be here. It’s been a process. At the beginning of the year we decided we would try the Presidents Cup and it’s worked out and we now get to represent Region II here in South Carolina.”

The Presidents Cup provides a progressive, competitive experience to teams, in a series of unique experiences highlighting competition, camaraderie and community from the state to regional to national levels of US Youth Soccer.

The US Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup will continue preliminary games through Saturday, July 12. Consolation and championship matches will take place on Sunday, July 13.
