Players of the Month | January 2014

Each month, US Youth Soccer will be recognizing one male and one female player whose accomplishments on and off the field stick out among the rest. The players who are selected will represent a balance of athletic achievement, sportsmanship and citizenship.

Examples of these athletes' characteristics include:
- Impactful or notable in-game performance
- Displays good sportsmanship and the promotion of teamwork
- Community service
- Superior academic achievement
- Overcoming personal obstacles

While great performances in the game of soccer are appreciated, it's important to note that accomplishments off the field are valued just as much as those achieved on the field.

This month's honorees are...

Female Player of the Month

Ceirra from New Port Richey, Fla.
 ceirra PoM
During a busy high school senior year, Ceirra has been able to successfully balance several activities on and off the soccer field. She plays club and high school soccer, while also volunteering for local youth soccer camps. Ceirra also does other volunteer work and has logged more than 100 hours with those programs. Despite her busy schedule, she maintains a 3.5 GPA while taking advanced placement courses and working 25 hours each week. She is captain of her high school team and president of a school club. Ceirra is a dedicated, hard-working person, who does not let obstacles get in her way.

Male Player of the Month

Balaam from Wingate, N.C.
balaam POM

Despite the difficult circumstances of having his mother in the hospital for much of the fall season, Balaam always gave 100 percent and didn’t miss a game. On the field, he is a team leader who will play any position to help his team succeed. He was also able to make the high school honor roll while taking an advanced course load. When his mother was able to attend his final two club games, Balaam scored in each of them. Both times, he ran across the field to celebrate the goals with his mother. Balaam continues to display the positive qualities that can be acquired through playing youth sports.
